In my fantasy world there are four continents with their own histories and their own versions thereof. The western continent, was divided and in a state of war ~80 years before hand. The king of that time had worked to unite the continent (the time before his rule is knwon as "the last peace") and was killed during a negotiation afar. His successor had started wars with the other nations as a consequence and over dedicated the country's economy to war -he died in the battlefield. The third reign from the Last peace, was a weak ruler whom could not stop the wars with diplomacy, attempted appeasement of the other factions (giving away land that had been jealously defended with life and limb the past 60 years), and even colluded with the enemy forces when to escape capture. As of three years ago, he was usurped and murdered by the current king. The current king 19 years old (took to the throne at 16 years if age) claims to be anointed by their deity and has been successful in recapturing the lost land. With only three warlords between his kingdom and the uncontested rule of the continent, he has wild and fanatical support of his people. He sends every city embassy to offer surrender before fighting and in such cases "adds subjects." The only prisoners taken are form conquered cities; you'll find that he is the most up front of any of the rulers. This story came to me while listening to the album. The "god king" is a character that the readers will have to decide if they are good or bad (divine appointment is something you see in fantasy now and again, but it is almost never thoughtfully explored; I intended to change that).

It is actually known what happened to him. He was struck by a grape shot while studying the Norwegian defences in the front trenches. At least the wound correlates both in size and damage profile to a grapeshot. But due to a lot of modern Swedish propaganda pushes the idea that he was shot by one of his own men to stop the ceaseless war.
