That bass drum part in "Good Times Bad Times"? CRAZY!!!

John Bonham's bass drum patterns are legendary. What he pulled off with a single bass drum, many drummers have a problem pulling off with a double bass drum.

He had one pattern that he used often in his playing...and that's playing single bass drum triplets with one foot. It's a lot of fun to work on and takes a lot of practice to do correctly.

In this short drum lesson I break out what he is doing and give you exercises to work on it.

Thanks for this. Was doing an open jam the other night and “Good Times Bad Times” was suggested. I was embarrassed to say I didn’t have a grasp on the Bonham triplet and this explains it really well!! Thanks again!!

I don't think my band plays a song slow enough for me to get in that triplet. I'll add this to my practice.

Funny thing is grinding these into the ol muscle memory was hard, and a awesome lessson.
However, Some times out of no where in a groove, the old pedal mind, wants to put all this stuff in. Whether I like it or not. 👍 But I would rather have it and know its there . TY man

Great series on Bonham lately, Stephen! Bonham also had a very specific drum tuning that always grabs our attention. Would love to hear your take on that! Thank you
