Kai Tribute

Today we begin by closing the Kung fu Panda trilogy with Kai; of the three villains I consider it the one I like least and in any case I consider it excellent, so I would say that Kung fu Panda has made an excellent trilogy!

Interesting? Mostly I only hear, “I’m so sorry” because of the similar song beat, so it’s refreshing to see a song with Kai without the “I’m so sorry” song.

First and foremost, I was pleasantly surprised by how very well this song's lyrics actually fits Kai: it seems at 0:30-0:45 and 0:57-1:04 like the song is deliberately describing Kai's addiction to stealing chi, and his bond-turned-feud with Oogway (in the latter respect, hilariously, the song is making me think of a fanfiction I read where a running gag in the last few chapters was everyone making the unresolved-homoeroticism jibe about Kai's relationship with Oogway :'D). And "I'm breaking through tonight" fits with Kai breaking back into the mortal realm. And 1:14-1:30 seems perfectly to me to describe Kai's rampage during the film; and how it's motivated by him basically saying "Screw you!" to his brother-in-arms in a manchildish manner and defying everything Oogway would advocate, and how he seeks to "bury six feet under" Oogway's memory, and how true to Kai not being much of a planner he never stops to think what he'll do next after destroying Oogway's memory. I very much approve of and believe in syncing clips in AMVs to the appropriate lyrics, and in that respect, besides how the Jade Palace's destruction was synced, I also loved how "Taking all your life" was synced with the Wuxi Finger Hold to suggest that if Po hadn't won, then that moment would've been Kai effectively taking Po away from the rest of the cast to whom Po meant so much.
Honestly, I really like Kai and feel he's an underrated villain. I very much love his backstory and find it makes him a sympathetic villain, plus for me he really does act like a black hole of despair in the darkest hour due to his supernatural chi-stealing and enslavement abilities; and honestly I wish the film had focused more on that than on pandas being silly.
