North Korea's reported involvement in Russia's war with Ukraine has drawn South Korea's ire. Seoul has warned that it will not stand by if Pyongyang does not withdraw its troops. North Korea has not involved itself in any wars since the 1950s, when an armistice resulted in a cessation of fighting in the Korean War. But observers say a mutual defence treaty between North Korea and Russia, along with the potential for modernised warfare tactics, could spell a new threat to South Korea, and compel it to send help to Ukraine in retaliation.
