Found by Tin miners at depths of 10meters or below, Billitonite is a newfound Tektite and is gaining popularity, fast. With its jet-black yet intensely glossy luster, coupled with the deeply etched grooves and pits, these Tektites are estimated to be around 780,000 years old, born of the Australasian impact event around the area of the Bay of Tonkin.
The etching and gloss of Billitonites is believed to be due to the highly acidic soils in the region of Belitung. Due to the sheer force of the impact event, the earthen soil and sand was hurled high up pass the atmosphere, and on their 2400km journey back to terra forma, formed in shapes of spheres, dumbbells or teardrops. The front-facing portion of the Billitonites, of which paper thin cracks are present during re-entry into the atmosphere, was eroded by the acidic fresh waters. Likewise, the rear-facing portion of the Billitonites was largely unscathed and retained its “original” shape and look.
Billitonites, with their etchings and grooves resembling Arabic script, have long been revered as a stone of mystical properties. With its inherent high frequency, it is perfect for Reiki or meditation work. It is also believed to promote tranquility and peace, and thereby bringing a state of Zen calmness. Holding a Billitonite and working the grooves and etchings is said to bring immediate relief.
