The Real Reason KLM Says "NO" to 787 and turn to Airbus! Here's Why
KLM, recognized as the world's longest-operating airline and a member of the Air France-KLM group, has announced intentions to modernize its wide-body aircraft fleet. When it came to this announcement, many thought that the airline would opt the Boeing Dreamliner 7 8 7 because it has traditionally operated a Boeing-dominated fleet since 19 69 when it received it first Boeing, which was a 7 4 7. But no, their decision turned out to be all about Airbus A3 50. So what’s behind this decision? Why is it shocking? And is there any other chance for Boeing? We’ll find out in this episode.
The Real Reason KLM Says "NO" to 787 and turn to Airbus! Here's Why
Range
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Air France-KLM CEO Ben Smith explained that preference for the Airbus A3 50 over the Boeing 7 8 7 dash 10’s is due to its superior range. The A3 50-1000 boasts a range of 8,700 nautical miles, while the A3 50-900's range is close behind at 8,300 nautical miles. In contrast, the 7 8 7 dash 10's range is much shorter with 6,430 nautical miles. So with plans to expand in South America and South Africa, the A3 50's additional range is a strategic advantage.
The Real Reason KLM Says "NO" to 787 and turn to Airbus! Here's Why
Especially given the current restrictions on European carriers flying over Russian airspace due to the conflict in Ukraine, the range is crucial for Air France-KLM. With Russia's airspace closure to European airlines, including KLM, direct flights between Europe and Asia have become complicated. These restrictions necessitate detours that add significant distance to flights. For example, a flight from London to Tokyo now takes about 13 hours and 44 minutes, nearly 2 hours longer than before, due to a detour of almost 1,800 miles to avoid Russian airspace. Normally, the direct distance from Amsterdam to Tokyo is roughly 5,000 nautical miles, a distance comfortably within the 7 8 7 dash 10's range. However, with the detours necessitated by the airspace closure, along with the consideration of adverse weather and wind conditions, the 7 8 7 dash 10's range is pushed to its limits. Given the likelihood that these airspace restrictions will continue, it makes strategic sense for KLM to opt for the Airbus A3 50, which boasts a longer range capable of handling routes to the Far East under any circumstances.

It is easy. You buy the airplane that passengers fly with without being concerned if a door falls out, rivets stay in place, or simply falls down from the sky. As long as Boeing doesn’t get their sh%t together, I am definitely not putting a foot on that junk. Fire the board and hire people from the assembly line/ engineers. They are not solely focused on bonuses but keeping Boeing alive. The Calhouns or Muilenbergs couldn’t care less as long they have an inappropriately high income.

25:00 I call bs on the pilot shortage, there never has been one and never will be one. I’m a qualified commercial pilot and I’ve struggled to find a decent flying job for over 10yrs

I don't want to give up on Boeing but they need to get their act together fast. I hope their rep is repaired soon. Airbus so far has a good record. Many airlines may choose them instead. Boeing has been almost a monopoly so far and maybe it's time for someone else's chance to shine.

Yep, there it is ! The real reason KLM Says "NO" to BOEING 787 and turn to AIRBUS, because of AIRBUS is safest plane than BOEING for KLM. I wish Garuda Indonesia Says "NO" to BOEING too just like KLM Says "NO" to BOEING and turning to AIRBUS for the future. I love AIRBUS because, this plane so very safer than BOEING as got issue every long year of this 2024. Well, at least I need Indonesia to stop relationship with BOEING and turning to AIRBUS for relationship future just like KLM (Netherlands), Qantas (Australia), Delta Airlines (U.S.A.) etc. So, the Garuda Indonesia will use AIRBUS over it's BOEING for the future. I'm afraid if Garuda Indonesia get corruption case because of plane types "B" that mean "BOEING & Bombardier", "A" that mean "ATR" except for "AIRBUS" and "E" that mean "Embraer" as I know. But the plane types "B" just like "BOEING & Bombardier" maybe is very impossible during Garuda Indonesia get corruption case on 2021 years ago during COVID-19 than "A" just like "ATR" only and "E" just like "Embraer".

I would not fly Boe if i can help it poor quality, two whistleblowers die in mysterious circumstances. plane crash, doors come off, bolts are wrong, and various other things so no boeing just get lost.

If anything tho, Airbus kinda lost cause A350 doesn't compete directly with 787 and don't want an A330neo so technically they lost
