This week we would like to reveal an abandoned church to you, that we filmed in an Italian ghost town called Rocchetta Alta. The town is part of the Municipality of Rocchetta al Volturno, which is made up of two parts: the original village, called Rocchetta Alta, and Rocchetta Nuova, which is located at a lower altitude.

During the 1960s, the abandonment of the ancient town of Rocchetta Alta, due to war damage and difficult living conditions, led to the establishment of the new municipal center of Rocchetta Nuova, near the dam of the Volturno river, around the new parish of Santa Maria Assunta.
Rocchetta Alta is made up of remains of the ancient castle, the church of the Assunta and some other buildings. Although abandoned, the church is still well-preserved, dating back to the Middle Ages, there is a Renaissance bas-relief near the bell tower. The facade is Baroque, without particular value, with a Romanesque portal.
Fun fact: The clock in the bell tower follows the ancient 6-hour clock system
