He's doing it in the form of comedy, because it's the only way to get it out, without bringing the wrath of the control system down on him. I actually felt sad watching this. Hearing all the laughter but seeing a man completely broken. You could cut the awkwardness with a knife. Leno was speechless on a lot of things Jim was saying.
