Oat milk can be a good substitute for cow's milk. It’s healthy, low fat, dairy free and vegan. All you need is a blender, rolled oats, water and 2 minutes of work. The result is silky smooth and healthy milk that is good for coffee, tea, smoothies, porridge and other recipes. So follow this recipe to learn how to make the best homemade oat milk.

Healthy recipes you can prepare with oat milk:

Ingredients:
1 cup (90g) Rolled oats
4 cups (1 liter) cold water
Optional:
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon maple syrup

Directions:
1. Place the oats the blender or food processor, add water and vanilla extract. Blend at the highest speed for 30-60 seconds, until looks smooth and creamy.
2. Strain the oat milk through a nut-milk bag or cheesecloth, squeezing well to extract the extra liquid.
3. Pour the milk into an airtight container.

Notes:
• Can be stored in the fridge up to 5-6 days.
• Shake well before use!
• This recipe is gluten-free as long as you use gluten-free rolled oats.

I would soak the oats in water for at least 8 hours before making. It makes the nutrients in the oats more bioavailable so you can absorb even more nutrients.

Shane Ashby: Don't be so neurotic about the recipe. There is zero need to soak the oats, and especially not for 8 hours. Bioavailability my foot. Nobody fusses about bioavailability when cooking and eating oatmeal porridge. Also, in general, why even bother with the straining/cheesecloth stuff? Just drink the darn fiber right along with the rest of the liquid. Fiber is good for you, remember? It's amazing how some people can turn a 2-minute task into and 8-hour delayed operation by adding unnecessary fuss.

Finding this video now and after following your directions I made my first batch of oat milk. It's not bad. I don't really taste the vanilla but I could definitely see substituting this for cow's milk or almond milk.
