One thing you learn quickly when playing guitar is that singing _and_ playing is almost another skillset entirely

I cant do that aswell, here’s why…

I cant sing Layla and I can’t play it.

I think every guitarist starting out should hear this ❤️

wow, I remember trying to learn Layla (singing and playing) when I was just starting playing guitar almost 20 years ago and being like "this is impossible." I feel so vindicated right now.

I've seen him in concert 4 times, first in 1975. Each show was more awesome than the last!!

if you listen to live versions, you'll notice he never sings "layla" in chorus while doing the riff at the same time. only time he does, he's doing the power chords.

I saw Eric in 2007 or 2008 in Raleigh NC and it was great to see the legend in person! Great show, with lots of Cream, solo, and blues songs thrown in. INCREDIBLE!

He's humble enough to admit that, rather than sing it when you'll end up stutter or mumble the words or either ruin the licks... ♥

Ive been playing for 16 years and i still cant hardly speak when im playing. I can somewhat if im playing my acoustic with a basic up and down strumming pattern but thats it. Mad respect to the people that can do it, so much harder than it seems

Big EC fan. Even with all the accolades, he is underrated and under appreciated. His skills are nothing compared to modern shredders, but to be pioneers of something is no small feat. Pages, Becks, and Hendrixes of the world were his contemporaries and often cover his songs especially Sunshine of your love. Crazy especially he was a only a kid of 20 in the the early 60's when he created that iconic riff. Sounding like absolutely no one. Very underrated as song writer too.

I'm always incredibly impressed by people who can play guitar, especially lead, and sing. Same with drummers and piano players who sing. And some bass players, but not all. Geddy Lee and Lemmy come to mind.

That’s awesome! I’ve never seen this interview before and I’m a huge Clapton fan.

And it’s one of the most fire guitar riffs and song to this day

Respect, even I could not do it at the same time. This is another skill to earn as singer and guitarist, yet somehow John Mayer has that skill. Awesome for both artists!

One of the greatest of all time. So many world concerts so many millions of records sold.
Highly influential and highly regarded.
Great song writer too.

I always hear Duane Allman's searing slide guitar in my head when I think of Layla.

This is actually REALLY interesting to hear. From a viewpoint on how songs are structured and or played.
