Makati is the first Corporate city in the ASEAN, developed in the 50s. the ASEAN neighbours just copied Makati later. Bangkok and Jakarta were big slums up until the 80s. Singapore was just a baby. Kuala Lumpur became a big thing when they built the Petronas Towers. But Makati was THE place to be until the rest in the ASEAN caught up. It is now undergoing rehabilitation and making it number one again.
