The 2024 Jeep Compass Is An Expensive Mini-Grand Cherokee, But Is It Worth It? | Review

With an MSRP that sails right past the competition to over $50,0000 (in the Trailhawk trim), the question must be asked: is the Jeep Compass the scale model Grand Cherokee of your dreams, or is it just too expensive to consider in the small SUV segment that includes strong values like the Crosstrek and HR-V and reliable efficient models like the Corolla Cross Hybrid?

I have no.problems out of my Jeep and a great discount! There are a lot of haters who never owed a Jeep making negative comments....

Proud owner of a Jeep Compass 2024. People miss the main selling point is the all weather and multi terrain functionality of Jeeps. The rugged and sturdy construction is also a key trait (have had no reliability issues as people seem to claim).

who the heck is paying $50, 000 for a Compass????

Just got a Mazda CX50 Turbo for $40k. I wouldn’t spend $50k on a Compass

I just picked up a 2024 Compass Latitude for $34k. That price was after dealer add ons. Came with Sun and Sound package and I love it! I got lucky and found a dealership who seemed to offer more discounts than anyone else.

I enjoy all your reviews but especially appreciate your always well reasoned, practical "if my money were on the line..." wind up. Thanks.
As Kia fan / Subaru fan I have never considered a Jeep vehicle due their long standing reputation of expensive to buy, operate, and maintain. That said and to be fair, it isn't all doom and gloom for Jeep owners as two family members had 2002 Jeep Libertys that both were trouble free for over 100, 000 miles!

Just bought a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee $13k in incentives and discounts… and $33.5k out the door. Drives well and the interior and brakes are solid improvements

I paid only 30k for a completely optioned up 2021 80th anniversary Compass with all the toys. In Feb of 2021, it's MSRP was less that all of those competitors he mentioned.

I'm shocked at the price increase. That said, I am VERY happy with my Compass nearly 3 years in. Absolutely no problems.

Alex, If my compass ever pointed to this grossly overpriced CUV, I would replace it immediately. 😉🤣 The fact Jeep has VACATED the heart of the CUV market with the discontinuation of the Cherokee ought to serve as food for thought for prospective buyers. 🤔

If you want to offroad, the Crosstrek makes a lot more sense. 35k, durable, reliable, cheap to fix and easy to work on, and is amazing offroad. If you're never going offroad, the Toyota is hard to beat. 50mpg when gas is 6+ is going to save you a fortune.

No question, just get the Kona with the 1.6T and new 8-speed. It has the same type of AWD lock feature and has way more standard feature content.

The depreciation is what would bother me.

The ONLY, absolutely ONLY, reason to consider this model is if it is offered ~$10k below MSRP. Yes, $10k. Dealers have tons of them on lots, they don't sell for obvious reasons, so some dealers actually have to offer over $10k discounts to get rid of them. Compass' MSRP just ridiculous, anyone who gets a Compass with a smaller discount makes a mistake.

Stellantis selling a Jeep compass for $50, 000 is an indication that they don’t understand the American market. I would never pay that much for a small unreliable suv.

Thanks for the review, Alex. Give us something to consider. Dunno if others are experiencing this but while Stellantis Jeeps are getting discounted, their MSRP pricing starts high to me. I do not know what's worse, getting a car with mark-ups or getting a car with discounts but with prices that were so high to begin with, even after the discount, you feel you did not get a discount!

One of my Good friend who travels for a living to all corners of the country. He is 6’3” tall and almost 300lbs. After 2 weeks of ownership he gave me a ride somewhere and he wished he never bought the compass. He said he was thinking only about the discount they were offering at the time and not about the suv itself. He is way to big to be comfortable he looks show horned in the driver seat. He traded a Kia Sorrento and put 100’s of thousands of miles on it after 4 years and it looked like new still. This compass is all scratched and marred up inside with the black everywhere. He admitted to me he made a big mistake. And he’s had many issues.

$40k+ for a non-luxury subcompact crossover is a bit too pricey, IMO.

It might not be fair, but when it comes to American SUV's, I have a general belief that anything that isn't the top dog for the company is going to be a pile.

I like the look of the Compass. And I think they have addressed the complaints people had with it. I would definitely buy it except for the price. I don’t really know how negotiable the price is because I haven’t tried to price it. The MSRP is in my opinion too high and definitely dissuades any further interest in it. This car is about the same size as a Cadillac XT4 and is approaching its price. I would consider the top trim Compass, fully loaded with everything, if it sold for $40K. It’s not worth more to me.
