Gov. Kathy Hochul signed 10 gun-related bills, including one which will prohibit New Yorkers under the age of 21 from buying semi-automatic rifles.

New Yorkers under age 21 will be prohibited from buying semiautomatic rifles under a new law signed Monday by Gov. Kathy Hochul, making the state one of the first to enact a major gun control initiative following a wave of deadly mass shootings. Hochul, a Democrat, signed 10 public safety-related bills, including one that will require microstamping in new firearms, which could help law enforcement solve gun-related crimes.

Another revised the state's “red flag” law, which allows courts to temporarily take away guns from people who might be a threat to themselves or others. “In New York, we are taking bold, strong action. We’re tightening red flag laws to keep guns away from dangerous people,” Hochul said at a press conference in the Bronx.

Doing the same things more than once and expecting different results is the definition of insanity!

This is just show. The Supreme Court just made a ruling in CA about this same thing and ruled that it is unconstitutional.

Sign all the gun laws you want. But as long as you continue to allow career criminals back onto the streets over and over again, nothing will change.

"Laws come out, and nothing ever changes" almost like criminals will get guns no matter what laws you make.

Can't wait to hear all the governor's excuses for why these new laws don't end up making a bit of difference. Although, I'm certain they'll just blame other states.

The 9th Federal Circuit has already ruled that states can't raise the age of weapons purchases to 21 years old. Last month they ruled this after California implemented it. The Fourth Circuit also ruled in favor of 18-20 year-olds on this very matter in 2021....

300 federal gun laws already in place, close to 20, 000 state and local gun laws already in place. What makes you think this new round of rush to judgement legislation will work on the criminals who already break the law?

She doesn't have the authority to do any of this.

#3 in the nation for strictest gun laws and the highest gun violence.. None of these laws are going to do anything especially the one you need a license for a semi automatic rifle. We already have that in place.

And this will have NO impact on their record high crimes.

What is this going to do for New York?? The Buffalo shooter literally drove hours to a place where gun laws were strict.

Many laws, but why we keep letting criminals out of jails when in fact they have been caught with illegal gun...the penal law is designed to protect criminals and penalize law enforcement...

considering how well her current laws are working

I guess she doesn't believe in reading court cases before signing a law that will be cancelled as soon as it hits the court docket.

They say "string of shootings" like there weren't any shootings or gun laws in New York before.

NYSRPA, you've got some more work to do.

Easier to go after law abiding citizens who will obey the laws then the criminals who don't give a shit about your laws. Let me ask a serious question when did a law ever stop a criminal or a crime????
