At a House Republican forum on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on August 27, former US Navy SEAL officer Erik Prince said Secret Service had a 'lack of seriousness' and did the 'absolute minimum' to protect Donald Trump. Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service Agent, and Ben Shaffer, a Washington regional SWAT operator, shared their opinions on the forum.

I am prior law enforcement and we had equipment to record every radio transmission and every phone call to or from the police department. We were not very well funded either. The price of that equipment and data storage has become significantly more affordable and much better quality.

Why would the SS not use this technology more extensively? I think it’s possible that they chose their words very carefully when they said that there was not radio recordings that day. Probably technically true but it’s likely because they have disabled it. No recording, nothing was deleted.

I also utilized similar equipment in the Navy, satellite based encrypted voice and data communications. For the SS to have coms capability that they can use wherever they are in the country it would operate on similar satellite based equipment. So if that’s correct then when the new SS director said they only record radio communications when in the DC metro area I believe he was trying to make it seem like it was a capabilities issue when in fact it was a conscious decision and nothing more.

They don’t want oversight and they want to cover their asses in the event of some thing just like this or as simple as not being subject to disciplinary action outside of the SS chain of command.
