The U.S. Coast Guard has released new underwater footage of the Titan submersible, revealing the catastrophic failure that occurred during its expedition.

Footage captured by a remote-operated vehicle shows the remains of the aft dome, aft ring, remnants of the pressure hull, and extensive carbon fibre debris, offering proof of the implosion that resulted in the deaths of all five passengers on board. The video was publicly issued on Wednesday, September 18.

The Titan's remains were reportedly found around 330 yards from the Titanic's bow, some 435 miles south of St. John's, Newfoundland.

"Believed to have imploded". How much proof do we need these days to just call something what it is?

Well they certainly got the full titanic 'experience'.

Why didn’t they build the sub in the same material as a Nokia 3310?

This is really the true wreck - the remains of the pressure hull where the crew sat - clearly see thick pieces of the carbon hull and everything that was inside all mashed together and forced into that titanium dome by unfathomable pressure gradients.

If they find the controller and it still works, that would be one hell of an advertisement

Leave the Titanic alone, people should not be able to visit it. Let her rest.

The technology corpse of the old and new side by side. RIP Titanic and Titan.

What a fool idea to name this sub « titan » in order to explore a wrecked boat called « titanic », they simply create bad luck from the beginning.

How sad🥴 A lot of greed played into this catastrophic event 😖

I am currently in the process of building my own home made carbon fibre deep water submersible, I've got some carbon, and some fibre and I'm just working on how to put them together. My mate used to go diving, he's had a look at the plans and what we've built so far, and he says it'll "probably be alright." That's good enough for me. So when I'm finished, who wants to join me on a trip to dive down and see the wreck of the Titan. Only 90 grand a pop. Who's interested?

Implosion implies bad engineering. The pressure is known at every depth. It is an easy calculation, I believe. The sub was not built sturdy enough to withstand the known pressure. So that means the designers and engineers failed to build it strong enough for a known pressure.

If it came to rest so close to the Titanic, why did it take so long to find in the first place? Surely that's the first place they should have looked, no?
