British Culture vs American Culture: 5 Things Americans Should Know Before Visiting the UK

#USvsUK #BritishvsAmerican

The US and the UK obviously share a language and a history, but we also have plenty of things that separate us and make us unique. In this video, I go over 5 things I think Americans should know before visiting the UK. Of course the list is subjective, so if you have any different experiences, let me know in the comment section below!

In the UK we distrust people who are too nice. We think that Americans only say things because they are paid to say it.

“There’s a lot more to the UK than just London and down South” 👏🏽 thank you for mentioning this I feel like everyone thinks the UK is just London and we all talk like the Queen 😂x

Ref weather: What a lot of People forget when visiting the UK, is how much further north we are in the UK. London for example is as far north as Newfoundland in Canada. In parts of Scotland they can see the Northern Lights, it is so far north.
Technically in winter we should be as cold as a deep freezer, but the jet stream from the Gulf of Mexico keeps us warm.

A very accurate and articulate intelligent snapshot of the UK.

There should be a law against first time tourists being allowed to visit London - it bears very little resemblance to the rest of the UK and totally skews perceptions of what we're like. Good video.

Weather in the UK is classed as maritime which means the weather is generated by the sea. North American weather is classed as continental which means the weather is generated by the shear size of the land.

Remember in summer months Scotland especially has very long hours of day light, and lots of twilight. More useful than an umbrella is a lightweight breathable jacket with hood,
The eastern side of Britain is drier than than the western side. Britain is an Island with an Atlantic maritime climate, so weather can be very changeable, but helps to keeps things green and lush it gives local strawberries flavour.

You only need 3 days in London. Spend the rest of your time traveling from Cornwall to Scotland.

I'm an Australian in the States. I'm so sick of having people come up and bother me at stores or ask me every EVERY FIVE MINUTES if I'm enjoying my meal. I would be.... but you keep interrupting.

Mate, thank you for saying the UK and there's more here than just London! The rest of England is fab, Wales is beautiful, Scotland and NI, too. Funny that you said pished, knew you'd spent most of your time in Scotland at that.
Yes, invest in a waterproof jacket. Yes, we don't do talking to everyone. But, outside of London, we love American accents which will help ease you through conversations. If in doubt, talk about the weather it's not so much a national obsession as a way of politely starting conversation.
And don't feel the need to pretend to be Canadian, we know you guys don't say oot like they do, eh?

My wife and I are English and have lived in the Liverpool area for over 40 years and she still has trouble with the accents. So don't worry about not understanding all British accents.

I liked your video and it's always refreshing when an American doesn't regard anything that is different from how it is in the USA as automatically wrong.

I watch a few Americans talking about British cultural differences and some videos I hate because they show a lot of ignorance and even arrogance. Some that is! Others are better, and this one is great. You have a nuanced and real understanding of the differences. As a British person I really appreciate that. As for the weather, of course Britain's weather is not the best, but you're really brave to pick Glasgow!

I knew you'd been to Glasgow as soon as you mentioned getting pished.

Sensible and good none biased talk I'm originally from the UK and have been back a few times I hate the tipping thing in the US here in Australia and England it tends to depend on how good the service is and mainly in better quality establishments but it is up to you the customer.
