Eric Rosen showed this a few years ago and I've played it ever since with pretty good success. There is a a big downside tho if they don't blunder their queen then you are just down a pawn with little to none compensation. However I'll still keep playing it because I'd rather be down a pawn than play some regular d4 bc4 stuff against the scandi

At 3:20, I appreciate you showed why a beginner level move would fail. When I was new to chess and wanted to learn basic opening traps, gms discounted moves right away without me knowing why. While I understood this one, still good for all the newbies, who are the future of chess

Fun Fact: In his first ever youtube vid, Eric Rosen showed this trap! Wait, now this hidden trap will become well-known... Oh no my trap!

This is what I always play, learned it from Eric Rosen's videos. I've only very very rarely actually gotten to the position where I can take on f7. Much of the time, people actually premove or just move too quickly, and so they play Qa5, then you play b4, and they end up hanging their queen because they weren't expecting their queen to get attacked.

4:23 what happens if they don’t take the bishop? Just regular chess from there?

Thanks nelson. I was recently able to use this to beat my checkmate my opponent in less than 16 moves.

I'm myself a scandinavian player and bishop c4 takes pf7 is a pretty well known trap. Just develop king knight to f6 or if you want to be way save passive push e pawn. Of course there are still tactics around from the distance but if white keeps overpushing his "lead" will find himself in a worst position.

This one is so clever! I think I'll switch from playing the Tennison Gambit against the Scandinavian to this.

I fell for that trap last night:move for move! First time in 28 Qa5 games that someone played b4. I'll have to try it as white. Excellent presentation.

Problem with the Leonhardt is that people also play 3… Qd8 and 3… Qd6, and then you have to play normally against the Scandi.

This is my go to against the scandi, I have over 200 games using the Leonhardt gambit. Never knew about Nb5, thanks!

I tried the Scandi with …Qd8 for a while, but it is easy to make blunders in this defence, so I am playing the French now.
Nelson, do you know the game Supi vs Carlsen? Carlsen played the Scandi and lost after a Knight and Queen sac. Supi is one of the strongest Brazilian players.

Good explanation and I understand the significance of traps, especially in early chess development, but in this case you should really warn potential White players for 5....Qe4+ or the simple 6....Nf6 or Nc6. The latter is the best move and simply doesn't give White too much for the gambit. Apparently there's some shenanigans with 7.a4 a6 but that's about it. It looks flashy but it's strategic base is limited.

when i tried this, black just moved his queen to e4 putting me in check and i blocked with my bishop. it all worked out fine in the end, but still didn't get to try most of this. i play at a beginner level
