Works with regular isshin the sword saint.
The last hit before posture break must either be a deflect or mikiri counter in order for (vault over) to work. Buff using any sugar immediately after and deathblow him (however it has to be at a specific frame to work). If done successfully you should be able to deathblow him immediately after

I just beat him the other day at 3am after 100+ tries. My heart rate was it maybe 150 and I was just so worn out, I almost missed the execution cue. Great fight, never again

Theres a pretty easy way to beat him by staying a certain distance away during the first phase, ensuring he only ever pulls 3 moves, all easily beatable. Then during Phase 2 and 3 using the Umbrella to deflect his two gunshot variations and easily punish him. I went straight into a NG+ after beating him, and raced all the way to him again and beat him on my first try in NG+ using this method. No point going toe-to-toe with someone who is so dishonorable. Keep the distance and he's a piece of cake.
