Regarding the cleaning up the locker room part. I used to be a High School Custodian and my school held multiple Indy events at the gym a long with a host of other things like Football games, Dance competitions, gymnastics etc. and I have to say the wrestlers ALWAYS kept the locker room the cleanest. We used to joke about how we wish everybody would leave the facilities as clean as they did. Being the lone wrestling fan among our crew I used to tell people that I believe it is something that is instilled in all of them and that's why they actually clean up after themselves and don't leave the place a mess and expect people like us to do it.

The wiping the boots thing is the same as why the referee in a boxing match rubs the fighters gloves on his shirt after a knockdown. He’s clearing any debris that might have stuck to the fighters gloves off when they push themselves back up. It’s rare these days due to the cleanliness of rings in boxing but they still do it anyway.
