This actually feels like an OG Corridor video.

One thing I noticed is that when he jumped down into the purple portal, it would take 5 seconds for him to reappear, but from his perspective it's instantaneous, shown by the clock skipping forward in 5 second increments. Great attention to detail! Niko really thought of everything!

I like how you can hear the time loop that is being created by the two portals being so close to eachother i.e. you hear the character saying "whatever" before the ro sham bo, "during" the match and after it!

One minor oversight, when Niko kicked the portal gun and both portals changed colors to time-travel ones, the green portal should have been closed for 5 seconds, since it didn't lead to any space-time 5s before (as the purple portal didn't exist at that time yet).
But other than this small nitpick, I must say, awesome video man! Loved it

To test the time delay, you don't have to count or pass through. Just stand by the portal and look at the clock in your room and the clock in the "next" room, and compare.

I get the ending now, he jumped through the portal that sends you five seconds into the future and accelerate the decay of the room he was in until it broke apart

"Alright, this next test may involve trace amounts of time travel. So, word of advice: If you meet yourself on the testing track, don't make eye contact. Lab boys tell me that'll wipe out time. Entirely. Forward and backward! So do both of yourselves a favor and just let that handsome devil go about his business."

There is a mod called Portal Reloaded that does have a portal that goes into the future, but it's, like, WAY into the future.

I like that you could see the clock jump by the 5 sec intervals at the end, I was wondering why there wouldnt be a time delay with him falling each time... Nice attention to detail, as always

Terminal velocity = 120 mph = 176 ft/s
The room appears to be around 7 feet high.
The portal adds 5 seconds each pass.
176/7 = 25.14 = Number of passes per second from his perspective.
25.14 x 5 = 125.7

If I didnt miss anything, time is traveling 125.7 faster by using the portal as he did in the video.
It would probably take quite a while even from his perspective for the facility to collapse. If it took 100 years to collapse, then he was falling for close to 10 months.
If we assume that gravity is added by the portal, since he is falling toward both an earth that is 5 seconds in the future and the earth at his current time, he could travel much faster. Actually, taking that thought further, all the other portals beneath that portal would be adding their gravity to some extent as well. The second that portal on the ground opened it would have started accelerating all of the air falling into it to insane speeds. The guy would probably get sucked in instantly and get vaporized. Whichever portal is the one where the room breaks apart would be where all of this would end, but the newly formed gravity beam would probably be what destroys it rather than it decaying overtime. I think we can assume that gravitational forces just don’t come through this portal lol.

If anyone savvier with physics and math wants to take that further, please do.

“This video is private”
This is almost as confusing at time traveling portals!

i like the fact that when he starts running at 0:10 the clock goes back to normal even when the camera is still in fast forward lmao

There is great concept. Also there is a mod for portal, Portal Reloaded, that is exactly this, it adds a third coloured portal for a time dimension. 1:49

I would have loved to have seen a scene similar to the 1966 Time Machine to see the room around Niko warp and degrade with time as soon as he begins his hyperspeed forward.
If you've seen the old movie, then you'll know about the effects they used to show great swaths of time and nature reclaiming buildings, for example.

I am sure that would have been slightly out of scope for this project and surely it would have added a lot more time and effort but it would have really sold the premise at the end.

Superb video, as always. Thank you guys at Corridor for putting out entertaining and beautiful short films.

So it seems Cave Johnson was lying, the timeline did not get wiped after meeting yourself on the testing track

Saw on the site yesterday, awesome short. The pacing and subtle mastery of the effect were spot on. I love how it's obviously about the effect but not using it as a gimmick, using it to tell the story.

Also love that Niko's not hamming it up for the camera, makes it so much easier to watch.

Had to rewatch the last part to see the clock discretly jump. Maybe it would have worked better with a continuous clock slowly speeding up and the respective empty room moments, like the first part slowed down. Otherwise it's absolutely flawless, great job it's really impressive. Hope to see it inspire some bigger content in the future.
