I’m 48 and expressed that script to my mother, telling her I thought spare the rod, spoil the child was to do just that! Don’t ever use it and spoil them to death!

I agree with the second line, if someone loves their children, they must be careful about disciplining them. Discipline is not abuse. Appropriate discipline for one child may be damaging, ineffective, or even counter-productive for another. Careful Careful, but who has to cherry-pick a Bronze Age collection of immorality to try to find something good?

Ive always liked an old Persian anecdote which says that no one likes an undisciplined dog or undisciplined child, but the dog or the child may not understand why they are disliked. It is the duty of the dog's owner, or the child's parents to raise the dog, or the child so that they will behave in ways which are acceptable to others.

1. There are lots of adults who say "I was hit as a child and I turned out fine".
No, you didnt. When you defend hitting children which is illegal in some countries and when done to adults, then you didnt turn out fine.

2. There was a christian author who wrote blog after blog and even a book how to trick children to get beaten, how to hide bruises so teachers wouldnt call child services, which household tools to use... And his book ended up on amazon. Its truly sickening.

3. There is a small town in my country with a cult of parents essentially addicted to beating kids. And of course they are christians.

Its atrocious!

"Suffer the little children to come unto me."

I think some priests took that maybe a little TOO literally and all in the nane of Jesus.

Aww bless.
