A Stroll Around Oxford (4K)

We start by crossing the Thames and the Oxford Canal then go down Cornmarket Street to the Tom Tower, Christ Church and Pembroke College where Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and the first two books of the Lord of the Rings. We then walk along High Street and through the covered market to the Radcliffe Camera, All Souls College, the Bodleian Library, University Church and the Bridge of Sighs. Our stroll around Oxford takes us along Broad Street to Balliol College where we walk through the gardens to the Hall. From here we go out into St Giles and then to University Parks and the River Cherwell. Our day in Oxford ends with a pint in the Turf Tavern then the Bear.

This stroll was so perfect for a spring day. Cramming down facts and figures, is so not what I felt like doing today. This was totally what I desired and it didn't disappoint.

I went to university there but was very depressed at the time and didn't appreciate the surroundings at all. I never went back as I thought it would bring back bad memories. Thanks for showing me what it is like in a positive light

The thing is John has never done facts and figures videos. He gives us the more obscure details that not many people know about. That's what I love about his stuff. His London videos aren't about Jack the Ripper for example...but if Jack the Ripper once rented a room above a chippy in Crouch End, John would tell us about it. lol.

Lovely chilled video John. I was visiting Oxford that same day, the weather was beautiful. As I wandered around the city I actually thought to myself you could make a great video about this place, and blow me down that evening I walked past you on the High Street !! So for the past week I have been eagerly anticipating this video, it didn't disappoint 😁

HI John - lived in Walthamstow for 30 plus years and always massively enjoyed your videos over the years, often retraced your walks and steps on many an occasion. Now retired - living in Harbourne, Birmingham - still watch your videos though! Visited Oxford many times but not in the last few years, however, am off there tomorrow (29th March) for a few days - your video inspired me to leave a comment for the first time - I have been meaning to do this over the years! York, John? Oxford is a beautiful city and you do incredibly well, walking, talking, and videoing for such long periods of time. Sightseeing turns my legs to jelly in no time.

A friend sent me to your channel, and suggested that I maybe ease myself in with your oxford video, it being "my" town (City, actually!) - you "did" a lot of my Oxford. So nice to see it through someone else's eyes. You nearly made it to a pub by the river when you got to the University Parks - a short walk across them and The Cherwell Boathouse would have served you a pint, but you found your way to a suitable place. Kings Arms has a "secret" back bar (ssh) - traditionally the students cram in the larger front bar, and the college "staff" into a quieter snug at back. So much to see - but you got yourself into some of the highlights: the museums are fabulous, the OUMNH an amazing, unmissable building in its own right and The Pitt Rivers something utterly unique. Good job - I enjoyed your visit to "my town" and well done you for just letting the facts and figures be. Actually, listening to some of those tour guides is a hoot - perhaps that's also true of other cities. I'm off to follow you around another place now...

I lived in Oxford for about 25 years. Had my 40th birthday there. Moved up to Durham 4 years or so ago. Miss Oxford. By the way, did you sit on a punt and read poetry from a book. It's pages stained with the butter drips from crumpets? Still looking forward to a Withnail & I walking/ drinking tour? I reckon Russell Brand would be the perfect companion mate! Hope you're well and thank you for another visual masterpiece. Durham's okay but not a patch on Oxford. I used to work for Oxford City Council. Litter picked all those streets. Sometimes, on the weekends, I'd be walking the streets, picking Litter. The only one up. Felt like it was all there. Just for me. Wonderful!👍👍🍺🍺

My Oxford is the childhood excitement of going to the big town when we stayed at my aunt's higher up the Thames.
The bus ride through all the little villages, the covered market, fish & chips.

The other TV show that Oxford plays a" character " is is "Endeavour". It's The prequel to " Ins Morse". Itis set in the1960s, and 1970s. As a fan of " Morse", "Lewis", and "Endeavour", that is how this American knows Oxford.
