Outdoor vs indoor SPL

Do speakers sound as loud at the same level indoors as they do outdoors?

The amount of power needed for a PA system in a room also depends highly on the number of people filling that room. Crowded music club against empty club can require about double the power - maybe even more.

Outdoor speakers are built to play loud so you can crank them up a bit more before sound starts to get bad (If they are good outdoor speakers of course).

I discovered this when I built a 5 W Class A amp camp amp paired with my back horn loaded single driver speaker, 96 DB efficiency. Even though at one watch of power input, I only measured 92 db something must’ve been wrong with my measurement..
I could not believe how loud 92DB was inside a 10’ x 10’ room with only one WATT of power being measured produced by the amplifier.

Then I took the same speakers and amplifier out into a very large room that was 40’ x 30’ x 16’ high ceiling. The sound was very disappointing. It sounded so low inside such a large room.. it was only a single 8 inch driver in the speaker cabinet.

Hi, what’s better for a dj dual 2 way 15” or 3 way powered speakers? Even when using with subs.

If we take the example, speakers outdoor blasting 120 dB SPL at 10 feet and put it inside a room with the amplifier settings set at the same level as outdoors, the sound pressure will be unbearable and can do serious damage to your ears and even your building. Floor+wall+side wall+ceiling adds 24 dB to the outdoor measurements. So 144 dB SPL indoors..

I tested my developed and advertised indoor speakers with 90 W amp outdoor in 95 in garden and the reusult was amazing - no reflections and no low resonances, no standing waves Loudness? A bit too low. And....- not best after sun set, in rain, snow and strong winds😊.

The very same Audiophiles that complain about the music labels loudness wars in their recordings are the same one’s listening to their stereo system’s at 90db or greater. Audiophiles are in competition with each other on who can produce the most bass from their systems.

Today with Audiophiles it’s all about the bass. Their speakers that go down to 20 is not good enough for them.
They need to add one or two subwoofers to their systems.
Then they try to tell everyone they can make their subwoofers disappear. LOL.

I listened to crappy loud systems all of my life. Im now in my 40's with an awesome sounding sound system ahd i regret damaging my ears. Because i feel i cant apreciate my system as much because of the damage to my ears.
