It isn't that Trent is the issue, is the fact he plays on the right side of midfield with nobody to hit long range balls to. We have 0 width on the Left side, Foden comes inside, Tripper comes inside, Kane comes short. Whats the point in having a playmaker in midfield with nobody to switch the play to? Thats his best quality and we aren't utilising it. Either dont play Trent, or play him with better options to hit like Watkins over the top or Gordon in behind.

A 4 for Foden is extremely kind. A 0 would be more fitting. Stones was terrible and shaky. Got roasted a few times too. Rate the performance, not the names.

The easiest way to fix the Trent problem is to start Gordon on the left wing. His best attribute is his range of passing and Gordon’s for this England side is pace. Having that constant supply from Trent to Gordon running in behind will win the euros

We all know what Bellingham do but the big positive for me was for sure marc guehi, especially considering how much the defence has been criticised in the build up

Trent made 1 mistake which resulted in a big chance for Serbia, he also made 3 passes which should've resulted in a goal for england if Kane Rice and Trippier were concentrating. He also had 3 shots on target and made the defensive interception which would've resulted in a goal for Walker could finish or cross better.

I’ve rewatched the game and I think everyone is going why too over the top over Trent’s “bad” performance.

This was the first time Trent played that specific role. Southgate spoke about it afterwards, how he was more disciplined to allow Jude to go forward and do his thing (as he should)

2 misplaced passes, one of which he recovered, and lost possession a few times (less than some other players on the pitch) but overall it wasn’t that bad. I think everyone was watching him with magnifying glasses to see if he could handle it and that one mistake then led to everyone freaking out and overanalysing. Multiple players caused chances for Serbia, including Saka, kane, walker and rice.

But for someone who has never played in that specific role before, I think he did quite well and will likely be much better on Thursday. Mainoo probably would have performed roughly the same cause he also doesn’t play that role in a double pivot. It’s why Gallagher didn’t have a great time after he came on. I’m not sure what Wharton’s specific position is at palace so I’m unsure.

Southgate needs to work out how to play a midfield 3 that allows Jude to do this thing without exposing the 3rd midfielder because all of the options alongside rice are inexperienced or young in that double pivot role.

The times Trent was able to be more free, he almost scored and created 2 chances in the space of a handful of minutes.

It’s not a Trent issue, it’s a Southgate issue.

Jude first and if one isn’t biased Foden or Kane is last by far. People blame teammates, his position, the system, Southgate and everyone and everything before Foden despite the fact that he literally started as the 10 against Iceland and dropped a stinker there as well. Maybe it’s time to realize he’s nowhere near someone like Bellingham.

Kane wasn’t unlucky to hit the bar it was a great save by Rajković. If you want to be taken seriously by fans of the game then give credit where credit is due!

Whilst the main thing is the win, it is extremely concerning that it got to the point that Pickford was lumping the ball long back to the Serbians every time. England couldn't string three passes together in the 2nd half.

There is certainly a lot of room for England to grow into the tournament.. Southgate has been bold with the squad and now needs to be bold with the team selection

Kane may have a few lingering fitness issues, but Serbia were also taking it in turns to kick him off the pitch. I'm not worried that much by his performance

If Ronaldo has the game Kane had, people would be throwing massive ammounts of abuse his way, saying how Ronaldo is holding back his team. Yet i'm seeing many people make excuses for Kane.

It's Crazy how 39yo Ronaldo still has higher standards than arguably the player who's favorite to win the bdor.

Foden underlined in this match why Jack Grealish should've been included in the squad. Trippier/Foden on the left = zero attacking threat. Also, how can a player with no left foot be considered good enough to play left back at international level? Better teams will turn him inside out.

I think the whole defence was immense considering Trent wasn’t offering much support and Foden seemed to leave so many gaps in the left by drifting centrally.
