Best eLearning Books for Instructional Designers

There are some great eLearning and instructional design books out there that can elevate your eLearning skillset.

I discuss five instructional design books in this video, most of which have had a significant impact on my eLearning practice.

If you get your hands on these books, read them, and apply what you learn, then the eLearning you develop will likely be much more engaging, effective, and professional.

Thanks Devlin for this great video. It has taken me a bit of time to work through all the books (along with others on my L&D reading list), but I just wanted to write a note now that I have and affirm that this is a great lineup for aspiring/beginning IDs like myself. My two cents on a possible reading order for those just starting the list: Tim Slade first because it is so wonderfully concise/approachable and gives an overview of the ID process. Non-Designer's Design book and Science of Instruction in any order. Michael Allen covers many topics, so he can be read piecemeal, or even out of order if something particularly interests you (e.g. the last third of the book is on learning games). Finally, Map it as a kind of capstone which also functions as a critique of a lot of standard ID practices. Interested to know if others have a different perspective on how these pieces fit together!
