We decided it would be a good idea to compare the brilliant BMW M2 Competition in it's manual guise vs the DCT (Auto). It was great jumping straight from my Manual car into Stef's DCT version, it's fair to say both boxes are great and there is no wrong or right choice.

I've had the manual m2 for one year and I'm telling you it's the best one, the connection you have with the car is unbelievable

If you watch the vid with captions on, every time the M2 revs up the captions say “[Music]” and “[Applause]” and I couldn’t agree more.

I am a manual kind of guy but the DCTs are so good these days. Difficult choise, heart says manual, brain says DCT...arrgghhh....luckily I am to poor to even think about making such a decission ;) Your video shows it is not all about numbers but just as much feel.

With regards to the tyres, replaced my PSS for PS4 on my M140. Differences in cold and greasy conditions is night and day

Damn you Joe Achilles. Because of your videos I got carried away this week and bought an M2 Comp. I was certain I wanted a silver (grey) one with manual box. Then came to my senses and bought a white DCT with carbon wing and mirror pods just for good measure - ha! Still getting used to the settings. Initially it was shouting at me :-D But looks like a great summer for me!

Just as an FYI, the gear ratios on the 6MT are actually more tightly spaced than on the 7DCT, which is might seem odd because it has one less gear. Both transmissions have the same 1:1 fifth gear ratio, but the DCT has a much shorter 1st gear.

Doesn't seem to be much of a comparison of the DCT vs Manual. It's more his car vs the press car. Don't really care about the wheel, brakes, lower ride height, etc. Was more interested in what the title specified... the manual vs the auto. Only real take away from this is the auto is 600rpm lower on the highway. Meh.

Joe, I'd love to see an in-depth review from you about the automatic throttle blipping ("rev match") in the manual transmission. I'm very concerned about this "feature" as I prefer to match revs on my own (to me, that's the most rewarding part of driving a manual transmission car), but I have no first-hand experience with it. The invasiveness of the feature could be determinative of whether I order the manual or the DCT.
