First step, try to adjust the column and linkage. If you put in third gear the linkage should be free, having some gap, not rigid.follow the settings in the shop Manual. There are lot of tranys sold as restored but are just repainted.  If you have to open it, replace all bearings and seals, give it away to a professional.

Why didn’t you show which way the 1st gear shift fork should face when you installed the side cover?

Nice video! What sealant was used in this video? What is it called and where can I purchase it. Is it like RTV? Or Silicon?

Philip - thanks so much for this video. I just acquired a 52 Chevy truck with a three speed on the column (fully restored 6 or 7 years ago) and began having an issue today with it popping out of third gear. R, 1, and 2 work fine, but it feels like the shifter doesn't quite go down far enough for 3rd to fully engage. Would you have any insights on what the issue might be? Thanks!

Good evening. Thanks for this video and the other showing how to take it apart. Looks like this is an older post though. You make it look very easy. I've never done this before, but last year was My first engine removal and clutch job on my 41 Master Deluxe. i tracked a clicking noise to the front of my tranny, nearest the bell housing. Hear it constantly n 1st and ever so slight when I start into 2nd. Two months ago the tranny started popping outta 3rd into neutral. Then the clicking a few weeks ago. A few older friends are telling me maybe the syncro and another just told me there are bearings in the tranny, which I didn't know. Your thoughts? Also in your video video you mention about replacing parts. Where do you purchase these parts? Any help would be truly appreciated....

Thanks for the video. Can you mention the oil grade and spec use by this transmission?

All I can say is do not use this three speed "saggy" in a '67-'72 Chevy /GMC  4 x4.  I made the mistake of dropping in my 454 first just to see how it would run and I never made it back home from the test drive I picked pieces of that three speed out of my ass-hole for a Keep it in a 6

I saw a reference manual on the table, can you tell me the name of it or the ISBN number? I'd like to buy one or borrow one from the library. Cool video. Thanks much.
