Not sure whether to get the Godox TT685ii or the Godox V1? Watch this review before you buy to see which speedlight is right for you!

When comparing the Godox TT685 ii (Sony version in this video) with the Godox V1, I am coming to the conclusion that you should decide for the TT685ii since it is basically the same flash and with a round-head adapter it is nearly identical for half the price. The light pattern does not make a difference and the recycle times are the same at my preferred maximum configuration since I am always trying to not go beyond 1/4.

Simple and straightforward comparison. Exactly what I was looking for. And you saved me about $150 so that I can spend it on accessories

I use the TT685ii along with the Godox PB960, I don't even know how many flashes I get out of it. Using it for Macro photography I'm only shooting at 1/64 power output on the Sony A1 - 10frames per second for focus stacking.
If I recall I think the PB960 Power pack allows you 2000 full power flashes from one charge so doing the math I dare say I can get around 16000 flashes before needing to charge the powerpack up again. Using the Y cable too you can bring the recycle time right down, I would definitely recommend the powerpack if you need long use of your flash.

The alternative in my opinion is to go for the V860iii with the rechargeable battery, great recycle times, 480 claimed full power shots and a lighter setup to carrying a powerpack around with you.
My conclusion is to stick with the powerpack and TT685ii for my useage, while it means carrying a lot around, I can fire bursts off all day without the need to swap out batteries.

I must admit, I steered away from the v1's a long time ago. I also like the fact you can add the' Propack' to the 685's. Recycle times can be also down to mAh ratings of the AA batteries used. Godox have intorduced the v1 pro now, which does include the propack adapter.

I am using a V860 III and TT658 II as backup. Never saw the need for a round head hotshoe flash, I do have the round head adapter too which came in useful occasionally.

I use the AD200 Pro and 600 Pro when I do off camera.

Oh ya, I love the flat-head flashes since I can potentially pack 2 in place of one round head flash.

All in all, the flat ones are more practical and cheaper.. and yea, the V1 Pro is just a cash grab bring so darn expensive.

I use V860-IIs which are the same flash as the TT685, but with a modern battery like the V1, so it recycles a bit quicker (and the battery charges quicker). I don't see much point in a round head flash either and there are downsides - they take up more room in the bag, and are harder to gaffer-tape together if you want more power.

Bro at least keep the volume of your music at par with your voice in post edit. My eardrums hurt now.

Hi! I am debating between V860iii, V1 pro and TT685ii, may I ask which you’d pick? Thank you!

Not really a heavy metal fan (Dad was a Jazz musician with Duke Ellington, Count Basie, etc), but I am a fan of yours. I do not own either of these strobes, nor do I need them at the moment, but purchased the round head attachment for the Godox AD 200 pro for exactly the same reasons you talk about in this video. The Down Side: Quality control of the round head is not/was not good. I had to send the first two back because they didn't fit properly (several videos on line about this problem). The third one fit perfectly (as the first two should have). The Up Side: I have used the magnetic modifiers a great deal for a variety of things. At some point, I'd like to get a second AD 200 pro and round head, but given the trouble I went through to get one that sat well (and others have gone through), it will take a lot of thought. As a relatively new photographer (with strobe a few months), I appreciate the feature of dumping TTL settings directly into the transmitter when you change to manual. What a difference that has to have made for many who had to get at their lights on stands to change the power in the past and use light meters (I realize some still do). I prefer the test shot and modify as you say - faster for me and the subject at the moment.

Hi, Great video. I have a specific use case and was wondering what you would recommend. I shoot a lot of badly lit runway shows that have me at very high ISO as I can't compromise on the shutter speed. I shoot using a 70-200mm would you recommend the TT685ii for this still? (I've never used flash before)

Thanks,

Jack
