What they _can_ do (usually) is tell you to leave because they're usually counted as "authorized persons" regarding declaring trespassers. They can also make a citizen's arrest, though and it has nothing to do with them being a security guard and they still have to follow all the same rules as any other citizen for that jurisdiction, which usually means they have to witness the crime directly, not in a recording, and make the arrest right then. They can't see you steal something (or whatever), then arrest you the next time you go back there. They can trespass you the next time you go back, though.

P.s. don't confuse "can't search you without your consent" and "can't make you undergo a search if you want to go certain places" while yes, you can refuse a search, they are allowed to deny you access to certain locations if you do so.

I did security for a bit. Security can't force you to allow a search, but if company policy is that anyone refusing to be searched isn't allowed to enter then you have some decisions to make.
