ABOUT REGION SECURITY GUARDING:

At Region Security Guarding, our key objective is to provide personalised security services to businesses across the UK. Our SIA licensed guards allow us not only to do this but to do it to the highest possible standard.

Although we are an SIA approved company, we continue to work hard so that we can consistently supply, improve and upgrade our security services. To do this we communicate with our clients on a quarterly basis to establish the strengths and weaknesses of the security we provide. This helps to highlight areas of improvement that we can amend and consequently move forward as a company.

Our work to achieve these goals and improve our services has made us one of the UK’s leading and most trusted security providers.

I’ll never work as a security guard in UK. There are two murders per day in that country and not having the ability to outmatch criminals, puts you in grave danger and disadvantage.

it depends on the state they work in, they are there to observe and report,

So what if his idea of a crime(eg, filming from public property)is not actually a crime and he uses force to stop you leaving????is it assault?

I know this were a few years ago now and some laws have changed. However, it has never been a crime to record any private property as long as you are doing so from a publicly accessible piece of land.

Scenario. If I approach Morrisons which is a UK Supermarket and I decided that from Morrisons own carpark I wanted to record the offloading of goods from the lorry.

Initially I have the implied right of access and of course I can record. (This is no different to you parking your car and having a dash cam turned on). If a member of Morrisons staff (usually a manager or the very least a supervisor) they have the right to remove my previous implied right of access and can ask me to leave.

The caveat is that it must be land owned solely by Morrisons and it not being land within a complex of different shops. It also MUST be someone who is acting with the authority given to them by the landowner / leaseholder.

Example. Morrison’s loan 100% of this land from David. Morrison’s then have that legal right to remove the implied right of access. Then the manager of the store which is Mary has that right granted to her by being the store manager. Then it passes down to supervisors etcetera. —— Generally speaking it cannot be a carpark attendant or a cashier for example.

At this point I must vacate that land or I will be trespassing. However once I reach the first section of public land / public property then I can stand there and once again I can lawfully record and finish watching the unloading of the lorry.

At this point the “authority” that Morrisons staff, Security and/or even the owner had over me has been completely removed due to me being on public land. (This is because EVERY member of the public own that land and therefor you cannot trespass onto your own land).

If security, Morrisons staff, the landowner lay hands on you once you are on public land simply because they don’t like the fact you are recording then this is assault. What you also need to bare in mind as-well is that any security guard, doorman, cctv operator, close protection officer MUST have on them at all times their SIA badges UNLESS they meet certain conditions in which case they don’t have to be displayed. However if a person holding any SIA badge is arrested for anything they must notify the SIA immediately and depending what the crime is we may even loose our badges.

Finally, please also remember, the amount of force that can be used should always be the minimum amount of force possible given that particular situation.

Example 1. Someone is recording and you don’t like it and you ask them to leave site but they are walking slowly can you force them along…. Technically yes as the law states once you’ve been asked to leave it should be within a timely manner. HOWEVER I would argue that anyone that holds an SIA license shouldn’t even be putting their hands on that individuals back to give them the hurry up.

Sadly we see it all the time but laying hands…. Or as most of us see it, going hands on, should absolutely be the last option that you use and if it means you being with that person an extra 5 minutes then fine. At the end of the day the whole point of conflict resolution is to deescalate any and all situations that you can and to remain calm under pressure.

Example 2: You have just witnessed an individual punch someone and leave that person unconscious. You decide to intervene and make a “no warrant arrest”… do you have the “authority” to get the individual on the ground and detain that person against their will until police arrive and take over.

Answer: yes absolutely. Just like any other member of the public. Anyone given the correct circumstance can make a no warrant arrest and the fact that the individual has already shown aggression and violence as they’ve already punched someone and left them unconscious.

You don’t need to be the victim of that assault to increase your use of force. However again, you should only ever use the bare minimum force to complete your objective. If I witnessed that person punch another and if that person was running past me can I stick my leg out and trip them up? Can I grip them, hold them and tussle with them? Again yes.

The only thing I would ever say is that if you do have your badge wether it by a standard guarding with no conflict license or wether you join our club or holding a close protection license or anything in between. Just remember… regardless how much force you used, or your reasons for it each and every time you go hands on with an individual you best make sure that it’s the correct thing because at the end of the day that criminal is most likely going to remain a criminal, but you may not remain apart of our family if it’s deemed you either illegally imprisoned someone by holding them in a locked room or building etcetera or if it’s deemed your use of force were excessive.

Sadly some people receive their licences and the perceived power goes to their head.

I have worked security, I’ve worked venues, events, building sites, ive worked cash in transit (wasn’t for me). I’ve worked cctv, I’ve worked Close Protection I can honestly tell you that 90% of people honestly mean well. 10% are just thugs and probably another 10% just aren’t fully educated on what they can and cannot actually do. I truly believe though that most of us do what we believe to be the best thing given those circumstances.

Finally, I don’t understand why there is so much hate about people recording with a phone. It’s not a firearm. All you need to do is your job and that’s it.

If someone wants to stand there are watch you for hours then go right ahead.

Hope this cleared a lot up.

It all depends on a few things, state, company and client. You don’t have to be a citizen to make a private persons arrest.

Are we allowed to use night vision or thermal goggles in a 2 mile search radius? It’s really hard to find people when they’re in the trees.

This has to be a different type of security because if I have a level two, I’m allowed to have a taser and a handgun and the security laws for my area is I have more rights than a civilian but less rights than the police police or the government

How can I assist the officers if they have trouble woth drunk ppl from street dances

Actually as a security you can carry batons, pepper spray etc as long as you have your proper licensing. I’ve was a security guard for a year before I started my equipment training and licensing, than moved up to an armed guard position, and currently working to become a CO. As long as you have licensing and are permitted on your grounds it is okay.
