As an amateur historian you get used to this sort of stuff. The biggest thing for me was realizing it only took 66 years from the first real flight to flying to the moon. That progression is absolutely insane

My great-grandmother is 97 years old, born in 1926. She's seen the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, men landing on the moon, and way more than I can recollect. She's as sharp as a razor too.

My goal is to live 102 years. I was born in 1998 so then I'd have lived in three different centuries.

My Grandfather was born in 1898. He died in January of 1978. Imagine what he saw through his life. The creation of wireless communication. First Flight to jets to the Moon landings. He saw the creation of the US Interstate system from it's inception to it's creation. When he was born in took weeks to days to travel across the US depending on whether you used the road system or trains. The year he died he could have traveled coast to coast in hours by air.

Today I pass on the stories about his childhood and life to my own kids now becoming young adults 124 years after the date those stories began.

More time has passed between the building of the pyramids and Cleopatra's reign than there is between Cleopatra's reign and today.

When he was little, my dad heard a veteran of the (American) civil war speak at a memorial event. I'm 46.

My mother is born in 1946 as well and remembers when her father said that Stalin had died and that a picture of Stalin was in the newspaper.
She also remembers when our king Gustav V died, which was in 1950.

My great grandpa was born 1904 and died in 2000 life went from horsedrawn carriages to electric cars. Landlines were rare when he was born but we had cellphones at the end of his life. He can from a time when black folks were barely treated as second class citizens to reaching places in society that he could only dream of, I would have loved for him to have made it to 2008

When I tell people my great grandfather fought in the Civil War, my grandfather in WWI, and my Dad in WWII, the first thing they ask is, "How old are you?" I'm currently 51.

Another is that there's more distance in time between today and the end of WW2 than WW2 and the end of the Civil War.
