Let's face it: the hound's tooth dovetail is a silly endeavor. And yet, in some instances, that ornamentation can be exactly the thing that's needed for the piece. That's the pickle I find myself in at the moment. And so, I was forced to go above and beyond to cut these corners. Hope you enjoy.

After making dovetails for nearly 50 years, I still stand back and admire them. Much as you did here. I no longer take orders for pieces, but friends, neighbors and family all want custom stuff. My shop rule is that even though I won't make it for you, you can come to the shop and we'll make it together. If they accept, I always begin with a talk that this process is NOT about efficiency, not about saving time or material, not about making something that looks like it came from a box, not about taking shortcuts, and that "good enough" is not good enough. Thx.

There's some nice woodwork in the Shadowlands commercial 😂

Seriously, awesome woodwork, and whatever pays the bills.

OMG. I've been in the business for nearly 40 yrs and always take Fridays off to catch up on paperwork, industry news and a few videos. This video came across and I liked your shop layout and how you begin a new job. Was not expecting the interaction at the 2:00 mark. THAT IS MY LIFE for how I ponder critical steps (just did not realize it!). Have liked and subscribed so looking forward to going through your past videos. Well done- really laughed my ass off.

Bro tried to make a fine piece of furniture - actually made people skip this video to play Raid Shadow Legends

I’ve always loved using hand tools, and like you said they are slow, but then came my lathe, sharp chisels are a must and there is no good alternative, plus I can knock out finished pieces in under an hour

Love watching you work. Very calming and motivating each saturday before I get into the shop, myself. Thank you for the inspiration you provide to me every week

Love the houndstooth dovetails! Also, narration adds an element that I don’t think is as easily obtained via non-narrated variety.

Is it weird that I very much enjoyed watching Erik come up with a design and then work to figure out how to, in a practical sense, make it? That contrast between pure art and pure craft. Maybe I'm getting a tad too philosophical there but that's how I saw it. I continue to appreciate that you spend much more time discussing design than any other woodworking YouTuber I watch Erik. Thank you.

Btw, when Jerry Seinfeld was a "fancy boy" he wore a fur coat and carried a European Carry-All. Just sayin.

I love what you're doing with the paid spots. Fun, hilarious, and showing off your wood... work.

Great video. Love that you’re getting sponsors. I’ve been trying out dovetails, and they are so hard to do by hand. You make it look so easy.

"Fancy Boy DoveTails" ! LOL
This is a really nice blend of using both power tools and hand tools. Thanks!

You mention your hand tool use in this video. One of the things I like about your style is you use machines for efficiency, but recognize when it’s right to get the hand tools out. It’s not machines or hand tools. It’s machines AND hand tools.

4 minutes for an ad and then two minutes for your outro doesnt leave a lot left for wood working. your woodworking technique is on point.
