In Vietnam you learn how to cross the road, in England you learn how to walk down stairs in a moving vehicle. It's culture, innit!

The strategy is to walk down while the bus is still driving.

As a British person imma just say those handrails are a lifeline.

every British person has been absolutely catapulted across the bus into someone's lap at least once as the bus stops. either you adapt or you die.

Descending the stairs on a moving double decker bus is a true skill. It takes many many years to master

It's a skill you pick up as I child. After hurtling down the stairs once, you realise you have to time it and hold on for dear life.

As a British teenager, we have these busses as SCHOOL BUSSES. I fall down those stares 2 times a day every day. 😂

as a brit, you slowly master the art of standing still when the bus stops

Half the fun of the double decker is the risk of being yeeted down the stairs. Just grip for your life and its all good. 😂

The worst one is when they stop to pick you up, you get on and pay, and they IMMEDIATELY start moving. So you get to do the wobble walk all the way to your seat 🥰

As a British person, I take pride in being able to get up on a double decker bus, ring the bell and walk from the bottom with the innate ability to know exactly when the driver is gonna SLAM on the brakes (which is always when you're on the stairs) to which I, again, naturally, cling on with my vice like British grip and continue to walk down the stairs.

I'm English and this is not only true but top tier editing which really captures the struggle!! 😂 oh and you forgot to mention how us Brits struggle with this with bulky winter coats on carrying work bags, umbrellas, some groceries, all whilst the floor is grimey and slippery because it's probably been raining, scared we're gonna fall and snap an ankle on the stairs, but the whole time still act nonchalant as if it's second nature 😂

You forgot to accidentally sit in someone's lap when the bus jerks, trip forward several steps when it stops sharply, slap a bald guy on the back of the head when moving your hands from post to post and almost get squished by the doors (actually get squished yet pretend you didn't - fight back those tears and square those shoulders now!) . Learn how to surf or snowboard, it'll help 👍🏾

The bus drivers never give you time to sit down. They take off instantly 🤣

Back in the 80s I was made redundant, in between jobs I was a conductor for 2 months, that's a whole new skillset, taking fares while the bus is moving, cornering and stopping! During my training the conductor showing me the ropes taught me how to grip the upright handrails with my buttocks so I could still use my ticket machine and take money.

Here's a tip: When going down the stairs, keep your knees slightly bent to absorb any shock from the bus stopping.

Saw you yesterday and your partner walking through Chinatown. He might remember me staring at you, but was I too shy to say hi lol

Frr, like I’m English is that our superpower or smth? People literally sit on the luggage spaces sometimes and nobody falls off 😂

Just remember: Handrails, handrails, handrails. It helps a lot to say “Thank you” to the bus driver when you get in. She/he will have a bit of mercy to let you at least/almost reach your seat.

Same. Sometimes if you’re slow, they will shut the doors before you can get off and some will even drive away. You’ll still be falling over when they drive away.
