When My Oil Level stopped reading I thought I'd just replace the Sensor, but it was not the solution! And when I rebuilt my driveshaft it came back with even worse vibrations. Here's why my daily driver has been down for almost two months.

170k mi on my 08 sedan. I have electrical issues as well but after replacing the valve cover gaskets and the throttle body actuators it has been very reliable. Bought it with 80kmi in ‘15 and it has never stranded me. If you want this car, go for it just budget for stuff to fix (like any sports car). Every carguy should drive this car at least once.

The pains of a European ownership as much as I lust for there performance the Japanese is still hard to beat when it comes to maintenance and overall ownership costs.

That point you made at the end about how the Honda will make you appreciate your M5 and Porsche a lot more makes a lot of sense.. I suppose having variety in one's own car fleet is important so none of them are neglected.. Something to keep in mind for sure!

I was a Honda mechanic ( and worked at Honda Mfg) for a long time. I’ve just recently bought a e90 M3. Yes, amazing car, disaster in maintenance. But, something I completely expected. Right when I got the car home, spent around $8k to fix several things that needed to be touched up (rod bearings of course, valve cover gasket, fuel flow sensor, diff seal, gear box oil, motor mounts, front lower control arms, brakes all around). With only 80k miles. Ya it sucks a bit, but so far I am extremely happy. I don’t plan on doing more than 5k miles a year on it. Let’s see how things go in the next year.

Really stoked you’re putting the effort in to keep this car perfect (I’m the same with my e36). I drove an exact copy of your e92 m3 on the track @ Kyalami in Johannesburg (former F1 circuit) when it was first released in 2010. It drove like a wild animal compared to the E63 AMG which I also drove that day (@ loved…)

I've unfortunately become very familiar with the feeling of having a daily that just *won't stop breaking.* My 02' Lincoln LS V8 has totaled itself two times over in repair bills but I am a sucker, and I got attached to the dumb thing, so I'll keep putting my mechanic's kids through college.

Gonna miss the M3, one of my favorite cars in the world, and I always love watching the winter drives videos that you make!

Really interesting stuff. Congrats on the Honda plans!
On another note, I can't tell you how much I relate on the car induced stress and lack of patience to solve the problems. I'm going through that now, trying to figure out my next move. Our passion really shouldn't be this stressful lol

Been wanting an e92 for years and having finally gotten to a point where I'm close to being able to pull the trigger and now my feed across all my social media is throwing me nonstop videos of problems with it. 😭 Lovely

Makes me think of my Volvos, my S60 all the suddenly got an ABS sensor issue (beginning of summer), replaced the sensor, but it didn’t really fix it, so I look in to it a bit but didn’t really have the time to do a lot.
Then while on the way down to Skåne (from Gothenburg), the dash lit up and i got a “brake failure stop immediately” and then the speedometer stoped reading, and the it went back and forth. Check the codes and the BCM (brake control module) had communication issues (was basically failing, the solders eventually crack), so ended up buying a used one and sent the car of to the shop for reprograming (I’m eventually going to fix the old one).

Than it turns out the AC compressor on my parents V70 is leaking.

And than my S60 started to have some weird vibrations, felt like engine mounts, replaced the upper mount, took it for a test drive and blew up the differential and blew a drive shaft clean off at the inner CV joint, spent a week on the ground trying to the the inner half of the drive shaft out, but it was stuck, my dad thought i wasn’t hitting it hard enough with the hammer and he tried to hammer it out and proceeded to smash his thumb with the hammer. So off to the shop it was to get a new drive shaft and M56 transmission.

While the S60 was down, my parents other V70 (a 2006 Bi-fuel) had the front oxygen sensor fail, so replaced that, pretty easy on the N/A 5 cylinders.

Got the S60 back and took the V50 down to Skåne and then a upper rear damper mount failed when my mom drove over a speed bump a bit quickly and then we had to limp it around and home with a “banging noise”, got it home lifted it up and put it on jack stands, managed to get the S60 in to the garage, up the steep snowy drive way on summer tires and get the tires switched to the winter set.
Drove it to pick up a package and got back the car and the tires were flat… turns out the were leaking.

Pulled the damper out and it broke when took it out, so i had to buy new dampers, bought a set of Bilstein rear dampers.

I love the interior colour choice! In the sea of black/black, red/black, this is definitively refreshing to see. :)
