BEST HORROR AUTHORS (that aren't Stephen King)

Hello! Today I wanted to share with you my recent favorite horror writers. I tried to pick a variety of writers/sub genres. The reason I wanted to make this video was to provide readers with a list of amazing horror writers that weren't just Stephen King (although he is amazing, too). I really hope this video helps someone find a new author or book to enjoy and if you do read any of these books, I really hope you love them as much as I do. Who is your favorite horror writer?

📚Books I mentioned in the video📚
Joyce Carol Oates- 0:47

Paul Tremblay- 2:46

Ray Bradbury- 4:22

Darcy Coates- 6:04

Clive Barker- 8:16

I totally agree with your opinion on Clive Barker! I can be reading a scene of grotesque death and the way he describes it is like a meadow full of flowers and birds chirping on a warm day. I don’t understand how but I’m here for it! 😊❤️

I just discovered your channel and enjoyed this video. I agree with you completely about Clive Barker. The first thing of his I read was a short story called Coming to Grief. I had the pleasure of meeting Clive after an interview he gave several years ago and I told him that this story made me fall in love with his writing. He recalled it fondly, and we chatted for a few minutes about other books and stories. It was amazing!

Robert Mccammon is a streamlined King with similar books, and currently has a fantastic ' Night bird ' series about an earliy 18th century colonial detective. Graham Maserton is an easy read with many varied scary subjects, and Brian Lumley is stupendous.

Good stuff. My all time favs are Lovecraft and Richard Laymon. For now it's hard to choose maybe Joe Hill or Curtis Lawson.

This video popped up on my YouTube recommendations. I generally read more sci-fi, and the only horror I'd read until 2022 was Clive Barker and H.P. Lovecraft. I have a few of Barker's books still to read...must get round to them soon. I only read my first Stephen King novel this year :O (I'm 51 so a bit late to that party :)).

I would say my favorite horror writer is Joe Hill, loved everything he wrote especially NOS4A2 and Horns. I have also been trying to find new writers lately and expand so this video was great. Have you read Kill Creek? Really good so far.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is such a fantastic book! I finished it the morning that I binge watched Stranger Things season 1 and the tones of both of those works are soooo in line.

Really enjoyed your list and particularly your assessment of Tremblay, who I think is still somewhat under appreciated. Some suggestions for your consideration: Thomas Tessier (The Nightwalker, Fog Heart), Michael Talbot (The Delicate Dependency), Michael McDowell (The Elementals, Blackwater), Stephen Graham Jones (Mongrels, The Only Good Indians), Caitlin Kiernan (The Drowning Girl).

Favorite horror writer of all time, for me, is *Richard Laymon* .. I recommend starting on his writing journey with the book “Beast House”. It is part of a series (that don’t really need to be read in any particular order, I just recommend this book, first). Another fave of mine that he has penned is “The Traveling Vampire Show”. Fabulous, fun summer read, for sure! I also enjoy Jack Ketchum and Brian Keene, for the same reason I enjoy Laymon, they’re fast paced, fun, focused on relationships of all types, and for some reason, a lot of the time there is a “Final Girl” that comes out of nowhere!!!! If we are talking recent, modern horror, I definitely would suggest Grady Hendrix! “My Best Friends Exorcism”, “Horrorstor”, and “We sold our souls” are such fun, freaky books!! I love author rec You get so many suggestions, not only in the video, but the comments are *fantastic* 💯

I had no idea Joyce Carol Oates wrote horror. Probably because I have never read any of Oates's work and so these just aren't on my radar. Thanks for sharing!
