I'm currently 35411 words in already. I was like, "I'm FLYING through this manuscript! This is too good to be true." And of course, that's when I hit a roadblock. Turns out there's a knot in my plotline which I have to untangle before I can move on... Luckily I'm so far ahead I can afford a couple days of outlining. To get here though, I can say I've used all of these tips, so they are definitely a big help! Good luck everyone! (ps. I love the customized notebook!)

"Let's drink more coffee." ME lmao. I just got into fast drafting seriously this year for NaNo. I'm excited to use your tips and everything I've learned so far to really get my novels rolling out!

These tips are solid gold. I find writing the fast draft keeps my voice & style consistant throughout the manuscript. I plan to knock out 120, 000 words for my next project & that begins today. I'll be using all these tips - apart from the notebook. That's not my style 😁
Thanks for a great video!

THANK I cannot tell you how much I NEEDED this video. I swear, I was about to lose it today after rewriting chapter 1 of my YA fantasy novel. I am DEFINITELY going to give fast drafting a try!!

I’m drafting my first novel: Ragnarok by hand and I’m a plotser. (I tend to draft without any outline and then go back and outline. For me, it’s more enjoyable. These tips help me. Thanks Bethany.

As a discovery writer, I use my fast draft as my outline so-to-speak. Oh yeah, adding the bloopers is a great idea. LOL :)

Definitely great tips thank you. I definitely get stuck with first chapters. And I get worried alot about my writing as my first drafts always end up a mess of words at NaNoWriMo (having own personal struggles with writing in general).

That's so funny!! I use a notebook to sort my stuff out before I write, too. It's especially helpful when I get stuck, or if I need to sort out timelines or background information that I need to know, but won't necessarily come up in the story. I use my notebook for almost every writing session and it has saved me HOURS of writing and prevented so much anxiety and stress.

I'm so happy I found this video of yours! I got the habit of highlighting what I need to fix later on as most of my writing was scholarly papers / nonfiction and we have a significant amount of parenthesis! I love the idea of fast drafting and had been considering it. I wrote half of a novel's first draft in a few weeks in 2019 right before moving, then I worked on my dissertation; but my goal for this summer is to finish this first draft. So far my outline apparently works and I added some notes in it since then; but I just need to get back in it and just write so I can move forward!

I do the notebook thing too! I also sometimes include pictures for inspiration of characters 😆

I have been watching a half dozen of your You Tube videos and lots of great advice. I have used your method of "Brain dump" getting my ideas on paper very quickly as I have them to build a chapter, which is sorta like your Fast Draft method in this video. My first copy is fast hand written chapters and my next draft is reworking it as I enter the text in word. As my book is a "How To" book on how to capture exciting pro photography (from 20 years doing it), the second draft I try to keep conversational style so it is entertaining (with some anecdotal stories) while also educational. Scott Kelby did this in his books adding humor. Your tips have helped a lot as 3/4 of book done. Thanks!

I can relate when you mentioned your voice has changed. It's so frustrating since it takes me forever to write a novel. Thanks for the video and good luck with NaNo.
