Have Mavic Nailed Tubeless For Road? New Wheels And Tyres

Road Tubeless Tyres have been around for sometime now, but they've not become hugely popular. It seems Mavic may now have the ideal proposition.

What do you think of road tubeless wheels and tyres? Let us know in the comments below 👇

Mavic have just launched 12 new road wheelsets and 2 new tyres. Mavic's tyre/rim combination has a tolerance of 1mm, ensuring that the tyre sits perfectly inside the rim and resulting in an easier to mount tyre. Mavic's huge data collection of measuring wheels/tyres means that they can claim their tubeless system is perfect as due to the products being specifically designed for one another.

One of the huge benefits of Tubeless tyres is said to be the resistance to punctures. Ex-Professional cyclist Simon Richardson checks out just how well they seal with the tubeless sealant when riding over a variety different nails/tacks as well as cutting the sidewall of the tyre with a retractable knife.

For those of you concerned about weight, Mavic claims that their tubeless setup is approx 40g lighter than the clincher version using an inner tube! Mavic claim that the tubeless setup is 15% less rolling resistance and the 28mm version is the fastest!

I have had a pair of these Mavic ust wheelset for one year and absolutely love them. No drama's, no issues and roll so easily. No punctures. Superb.

This vid is amazing. Insightful, technical, with real tyre engineers giving info about something that's always been ultimately a black box for me. Kudos for you and Mavic partnering to produce this excellent content.

I absolutely love tubeless and can’t wait for others to pick up on the precision and accuracy that MAVIC have achieved here. Well played!

I've been running a set of Kysrium SL (2013) tubeless for years. I'm sure the UST bead channel is slightly different and because of the lack of a center channel they can be a bit of a PITA to inflate the first mounting, but the Schwalbe tires I've run on it (One and One Pro) have been flawless with zero issues. And I'm a heavier guy usually running them between 80-90 PSI. The only flat I ever got was a massive cut on the sidewall.

Mavic rocks! Love my Ksyrium road wheelset and Cosmic road deep carbon clincher rims. Proven.

Refusing to lift a wheel from the Frenchman? It will get GCN perma-banned from Mavic, Si what are you doing!

These are amazing! I have gone through the pain of using tubeless roadtires just two years ago. I've now gotten rid of the bike.

I am definitely going to try these. I have been unlucky recently, and for the sake of not having the occasional puncture ruining a ride enjoyment, I am happy to take the 15% faster and loose in the corners ^^ It seems better comfort as well, which over a few years, moving from 23mm to 25mm with 17mm inside, and then surely the tubeless version will add to it. Mavis back on the throne for the average cyclist for sure with the Ksyrium Elite. Nice canyon btw!

I run Vittoria tires with Mavic Kysrium rims (a few years old now) tubelessly on my cross bike. Works well for me!

I just got my first set of tubeless tires and rims.. I’m a bit nervous about maintenance but your videos helped.. Thank you!!! I will also look at Mavic as one of my upgrade options in hopefully 6 months.

Always had Mavic UST tubeless (Mavic CrossMaxx XL) on my MTB's from over 18 years ago and now in the market for a new carbon wheelset for the roadie, good work Mavic on the timing too, i'm glad there's a mature alternative to Enve / Zipp etc.

I've been running Schwalbe Pro One on Easton rims for 2 years and can totally recommend going tubeless. No issue mounting/dismounting the tyres (one tire lever to remove, hands only to fit). I just use a track pump to inflate. I use Stans No Tubes Race Sealant and have just replaced it for the first time having finally had a puncture that didn't seal as the sealant had completely dried up

I've been using Shamal Ultra 2 way fit for a few years with good results. Hutchinson tyres help a lot. I've had lots of punctures, but very few flats.

I am excited for these. My wallet, however, is not.

Having spent 10+ years with tubeless MTB tyres, it's the single biggest innovation I've experienced, about time roadies enjoyed the benefits.

I switched to tubeless this year. 3000km covered, never been stopped. I've had plenty of punctures but the sealant fixed it, even in the pouring rain. 28c tyres less than 300grams each.

They'd want to work better than the Hutchinson or Schwalbe tubeless I've tried. So (so) many punctures. They may seal initially, but will only hold 30 - 40 psi. OK, you get home, but then you have to try and repair the tyre, get it back on the rim etc. etc. I've had tubeless tyres that I've had to trash after a few hundred km's.

In summary, they leak air overnight (enough to require pumping before each ride), they don't always seal, but most importantly, just do not have anything like the same puncture protection as GP4000s's.

I would hope the Mavic system is an improvement, because the system as it stands couldn't be any worse.
