Doug Casey tells us which nation is the cheapest civilized country in the world. He's talking about Argentina.
Inflation is getting out of control and if you only earn and save in pesos life can be miserable. And it's true that political change is in the air, but it's not the same kind of crisis Doug experienced firsthand in 2001.

" (A nation) is poor precisely because it has been ruled by a narrow elite that has organized society for their own benefit at the expense of the vast mass of people. Political power has been narrowly concentrated, and has been used to create great wealth for those who possess it."

We spent 3 weeks in Argentina this past winter (2023) and it was the best country of the 15 I've visited. The people are FANTASTIC and it's so cheap, it's embarassing. It is a first world country with third world prices. We are making plans to spend the entire winter there. It is a very cheap Italy. We loved it.

I'm currently in Venezuela, moved here in Nov 2022 from Canada, things are seriously improving here compared to 3 years ago, it's still very crazy, but it is absolutely insane how cheap it is here. Honestly feel like I'm living for free compared to Canada. Anything imported is expensive, but domestic items or labour is almost free, except for peanuts and chips for some reason they are insanely expensive

My monthly electric bill is less than $5 per month, 3 air conditioners running... 10g cell plan is less than $8 per month with download speeds of 30-50mbps

In 2007, my Argentine mountain guide in Patagonia made sure I paid his fee into his Canadian bank account

Just returned from the Uzbekistan trip, and what a lovely country. It's a fast developing country with low crime. People are very nice and respectful to others.Uzbekistan is rated 5th safest country in the world and very cheap to live there. Not too many people know about Uzbekistan yet.

Inexpensive doesn't mean cheap. You pay a price for living in such a place because if you're considered wealthy you automatically become a target and personal security is not inexpensive.

I’m retired in Thailand and massage are quite a thing here. There’s hundreds of shops and they all cost about $11 an hour.

Argentina's beautiful. I visited in 2004 and was shocked at the prices. I'll never forget the stunning inexpensive meals, superb wine.

Here in Venezuela, restaurants have a glossy laminated menu with no prices & photos, and a plain paper menu for the prices

Not counting rent I spent only $2, 000 in 10 weeks. I brought four Grand only spent half. Also I felt safe the whole time.

My wife and I visited Mendoza in Dec. 2022. Very nice, peaceful city with nice restaurants with fantastic steak dinners for under $20 per person. We did the "blue" exchanges on the street for a better exchange rate. In a week's time, our $200 USD bought 14% more pesos. Doug is right, we felt very strange carrying a wad of pesos two inches thick!

Years ago, experts would say one of Argentinas big problems, like most of Latin America, was land distribution or lack of land redistribution. The Uruguayan government has a program to break up of large estancias when they come onto the market into smaller land plots in the hopes of creating a rural middle class.

Great interview . I met Doug Casey back in the 90s at the New Orleans conference I use to go every year and it was great to listing to him speak. I was also born in Argentina but live here in the USA. I would love to join in on your podcast with him sometime, we would have a lot to share.

We toss the word “civilized” around too easily. Let’s try this out;
Western Former Civilization

Corruption will be endemic on either side of the political spectrum, in Argentina.

We are such a rich country that we could be falling down forever. No worries. Welcome to Argentina! We are a country formed by immigrants and we are the REAL EUROPEAN HERITAGE that you won´t find in Europe.

Interesting current state of affairs update for Argentina. I visited the BA Four Seasons, had great steak dinners, then 2 ski weeks in Las Lenas. It was very inexpensive and a great trip. It is a lovely country and nice people. The Swiss and Italian Olympic teams were training at Las Lenas.
