Zagato Evolution (1919 - 2023)
The Zagato company was founded in Milan in 1919 by Ugo Zagato. It implemented aeronautical techniques that its founder knew well from having worked during the First World War in the aeronautical industry. Cars bodied by Zagato had an avant-garde design, were light and had an aerodynamic profile.
Several special versions of mass-produced models from almost all the major world manufacturers, including Lancia, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin, will come out of its workshops.
In the aftermath of the Second World War, its activity resumed with a series called “Panoramica” in 1946, designed by Vieri Rapi, based on a study for the Isotta Fraschini Monterosa.
The activity of the "Carrozzeria Zagato" will experience a boom in the 1950s and 1960s, especially with the rise of GT cars - Grand Touring with the Maserati, Lancia, Aston Martin, Abarth models, without ever forgetting the true love that Zagato for the Alfa Romeo models which will be dressed with slender and aerodynamic lines, characteristic of all Zagato bodies with a "doppia bolla" - double bubble roof.
During the 1970s, with the reduction of orders from the major automobile manufacturers, Zagato turned very successfully to the design of industrial products.
Currently the Zagato company is managed by Andrea Zagato, grandson of the founder. The company is headquartered in Rho, in the western suburbs of Milan, and has an industrial site of 23,000 square meters, including 11,000 covered workshops.
