Bengals breaking news! Ja’Marr Chase has returned to Bengals practice as the team is just 4 days away from opening the 2024 NFL season at home against the New England Patriots. Chase of course has been holding out of Bengals practices with the hopes of securing a long term contract extension. While there hasn’t been any news about a new deal for Ja’Marr Chase, he is back out on the practice field in pads with his teammates. There is one big difference between Chase and Jefferson, Lamb, and Auiyuk. They had all 3 already played 4 years of football and were going into their 5th year option. Chase has only paid 3 years. Now if next year they don’t want to pay him I would have a problem and I wouldn’t play but this year no. Just because a player is eligible for an extension after year 3 does not mean a team has to pay them then. Particularly if they are 1st round draft picks that give you that extra year of control. Now if players don’t like the 5th year option they can negotiate it at the next CBA or they can all go on strike. If they ALL went on strike they could get that 5th year option terminated guaranteed. But they negotiated in good faith with the teams and the 5th year option was voted on and approved. Why does Chase think he is so special? He doesn’t have the accolades of the first 2 guys on that list. I believe he is better than Jefferson and certainly Lamb and Auyuk but Jefferson has been a 1 st and 2nd team All Pro so has Lamb. Primarily because they played a year longer than Chase before getting paid. I’ll tell you one thing. If the New York Giants called me and offered a straight up swap of Dexter Lawrence for Jamar Chase I would take it. It’s far harder to find a generational defensive tackle that it is a WR. We the Bengals would get by just fine with Tee Higgins. We could trade Chase get our DJ Reader for the next 5-6 years and pay Tee Higgins about 27 mil a year. Maybe 28. I am that irritated with the whole Chase situation. 6 months ago there is no one in the NFL I would be willing to trade Chase for. And. Phase must also understand that if he doesn’t get paid this year then how much he gets paid next year will depend on what type of season he has this year. An injury addled season is not going to get him more money. It will cost him money. Yea Chase was a 2nd team All Pro as a rookie but that was the best we have seen from him. He needs to go out there and get a 1st team All Pro and he will get exactly what Jefferson has gotten. I wish I know what they had offered him. I’m just really irritated with this whole situation. It’s going to cause problems in the locker room guaranteed.
