The level of this man's understanding is sad. At heart, his argument is based on his notion that he and others like him possess the gift of common sense and reasoning, whereas the witnesses at Fatima didn't . But anyone who delves into the subject will discover that at Fatima there were hundred of skeptics just like him, and many of them even more familiar with basic science and critical thinking. He should read the literature generated by those who were there, both believers and non-believers.

I am sure that the Portuguese in 1917 also knew very well what side effects there are from looking directly at the sun and knew very well how to distinguish this from the miracle being observed. But nice to have that explained to you by a "human seal" who wasn't there.

People up to nine miles away saw it. No one was told to look at the sun before the event, so those who were not present with the children would have had no reason to be doing so at that time, except that whatever was happening in the sky caught their attention.  Your explanation fails to account for this.

Oh, and one of the people who was present and gave an account was an eye doctor.  He would have known about this effect and not to stare at the sun for no reason but the sayso of a child.
