When my daughter heard this the first time, she made me buy it for her, and she brought it straight to her band director, and insisted that the band had to learn it, and she wanted the sax solo. She was in the seventh grade. She was invited to play it for a concert by the high school band. She was so tiny, but she blew the roof off! She shocked everyone in the auditorium!

The sax part is deffo one of the most evocative pieces of music ever written. The guitar solo isnt bad either

Baker Street has always been one of my favorite songs. There's just something about this song that I love.

I love this song so much. It came out in 78, I was 10 years old and my dad had just died. Music, especially at that heart wrenching time was salve to my soul. ❤️

Gerry wrote this after being unable to put out any music for a few years because of legal disputes concerning the break up of his band "Stealers Wheel....He took many trips commuting between London and Scotland to try and resolve the matter, staying in London near or on Baker Street and would often visit a friend nearby, late at night just for a chat...Gerry suffered on and off with a drink problem for most of his life and eventually succumbed to it in the early he truly was an exceptional musician and songwriter...I hope that you react to some more of his great music.

You gotta do “Right Down The Line” by him.

I stood on Baker Street in London a few years ago and heard this song in my head. Transported back to the 70s. Good days.

It just melts my heart to see you enjoying the songs I grew up with...never thought someone as young as you would really enjoy them

"Baker Street" is iconic. How does one go through life not hearing this song? Sad commentary on our society rather than our reactor. If you like this, then go with "Get It Right Next Time", "Right Down The Line" and "Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel. Bonus suggestion: "Home And Dry".

Boom. Back in the day when this kind of stuff was what we listened to every day on the radio. Back when music WAS music.

Reminds me of being a kid, riding in the car with my parents, and hearing this played on the radio. Awesome song.

Gerry was born in Scotland, I think 1947, sadly died 2011. But he & the band - WOW!!! I used to listen & see them way back then, a LONG time ago!! Just loved it!!

This is just one of those timeless songs. I heard it when it was first released in 1978, I was 17 years old, and today it still grasps me like it did back then.

One of my favorite tunes. A huge hit when it came out in the late 1970’s

There have been times in the past that when I've heard those opening bars, I've pulled my car over just to listen to this in peace
