From what I heard, as long as you use the cable that came with your switch it shouldn't brick your switch.
But hey that's just what I heard from a random youtuber and I'm just a random dude on the internet so do it at your own risk.

A few years ago, I bought the "BASSTOP Portable Dock Replacement Shell" for my Nintendo Switch's Dock. It was easy to install! I just removed my original Dock's circuit board and transferred it into the BASSTOP shell.

So not only is this Dock smaller and more portable, but I also don't have to worry about bricking my Switch since it's still the same official Nintendo Switch Dock internally! Sadly, the BASSTOP company are no longer producing these portable dock shells, but I'm happy that I was able to get one myself. I even got this 45W USB-C Charger from Skull & Co. and now I have a smaller, more portable AC Adapter for my Nintendo Switch as well. They both work wonders together! 👍

I have two official docks and one third party one. The third party one is like a charging brick that has hdmi a usbc and usb port

I highly suggest steering clear of any third party dock. I'd always heard/read stories online about people having their systems either bricked or really screwed/jacked up by using them. Because I'm hardheaded and don't listen to anyone, I stupidly bought one off Amazon back in 2020 to save some money and unsurprisingly, it caused my Switch to act crazy and malfunction so I immediately stopped using that particular dock. Surprisingly though, my Switch did straighten itself out after I did a full on system memory wipe, but if not for that, then it would have become a brick. I know some people have used them and everything's cool, but do yourself a favor and just go ahead and spend the $80 for the Nintendo Brand dock because it's not worth the gamble, it's really not.

I had to get a third-party dock before (because it was cheaper) and I think I got lucky, I have had it for a little bit of time and it works amazing.

I use a third party dock, all it is is just a shell replacement basically, I used the same circuit board that was in my original dock, I mainly got one so it wouldn't scratch up my screen

I would recommend it if you are switching the TV your using for you switch alot

Itd be cool if there were any for lite switches, i know that ruins the whole thing but itd still be cool to be able to switch to just some joycons or plug in a wired controller and play games on a tv

You lose your warranty if a third party dock breaks your switch

personally, I use an Insignia switch dock, it works identically to the real deal albeit only has one USB port. And as a plus the screen doesn't get scratched using this port unlike the official one.

I'd say is a gamble, I prefer buying a second hand original dock, yes I'm sure there are reliable brands but I'm not willing to sacrifice my console to test them.

I wonder this, how you break or lose the switch dock, that's like the hardest thing to break accidentally.
