Hey Chaps! Reckon you'll upgrade your TV this year?? (and if so.. to what?)

Using LG 55" oled for about 4, 5 years for watching and gaming... Still can't get used to its gorgeous image quality.

You give the best explanations about the different TVs, Oled, Qled, Mini and what not. Hard to really understand the technology, but I got the general idea. Thanks so much from HK.

MiniLED is definitely something to get excited about until microLED becomes affordable. LCDs can also suffer from image retention which can be similar to OLED burn-in but is much more rare and usually fixable. That said, this is the 1st gen of miniLED TVs coming from big brands (apart from TCL which you rarely find in Europe) so I'm a bit cautious. Usually things are significantly improved when 2nd gen hits and I know too well how it feels to be an early adopter. Even so, it is exciting to see how things are evolving.

I've never had an issue with burn-in on OLED either, but it will be great to see how Mini LEDs will look. I have the 77" CX, and I'm blown away by it, so it'll take some beating (for me) this year.

Already got the CX a few days back and I'm loving it. Expect/hope for it to last me until MicroLED becomes viable and affordable in the mass market as that would almost certainly be worth buying a new set for.

The one thing nobody mentions about OLED is no screen flicker. Granted, most LED TVs flicker so fast you can't see it, but it does cause eye strain (for me, at least). I notice a big difference using a flickerless monitor compared to an LED TV. That being said, Sony LED TVs tend to be the best in terms little or no backlight flicker.

Times have changed a little this year. I managed to get the 48" C1, for just under $1000. The pricing is definitely heading in the right direction and I definitely think its kind of in the mainstream price range now. It was a black "Friday" (was actually the whole of November) deal but still, it's one of the best deals on TVs I have ever gotten. I had a 2020 TU7000 ($450) before as my main monitor temporarily after building my PC because of budget constraints (Don't worry it's not wasted - it's in a different room now) and the OLED is definitely more than twice as good, especially for gaming! It's one of those rare times when I felt like I robbed the store!

Got the CX oled 65" and freaking love it. Best viewing and gaming experience I've ever had

In November 2018 I purchased a Samsung Q9FN 75" (QLED). I have been very happy with it and I just saw this video on it! Still quite an amazing TV - backlight on level 50 lights up my living room like a tiny sun. I am also very happy about the external One Connect Box. The design is perhaps a bit dated for a "flagship" model today. In the future, perhaps 2 years from now, I might replace it with new tech. It seems it might not be OLED.

I love my LG CX 48' so the upgrade would have to be very dramatic

I've just got the LG CX 65" and will be keeping it for another 6-7 years! No need upgrading anytime soon!! 🙌👌🔥

No, it's not. Micro LED now that could turn the entire industry to a whole new level but that's plenty of years from now

Still on my 1080p Edge-LED from ~2011. OLED would be nice to have but i hesitate spending 1300 Euro+ as i rarely watch TV nowadays

looking for a new TV is a nightmare these days with all the fancy jargon so start with what size you want or need its the most important thing.
eg if your living room is 15 feet from one side to the other you will need an 75"-80" TV if you get a 65" it will be to small.
the second thing is the same as it ever was, native smooth motion, a lot of TVs have clever software to smooth it out but in native mode there is blurring in fast movement. the best way to ensure smooth movement is haveing a very fast quad prossesor and a high refresh rate.
basicly the cheep 4K TVs will have that problem and have a 50hz panel and a slower CPU-GPU so look very carefully at the specs the minimum is a quad core chip and a 60hz panel.

I'm glad you mentioned the local dimming algorithm, because it's absolutely KEY to mini LED technology working, and is an IMPOSSIBLY BIG processing overhead. I think the mini LED TVs we'll end up with will be far from perfect, and OLED will remain the only solution for great contrast. It's just such an elegant technology.

I got an oled! And I never looked back! I'm on my 2nd oled! Upgraded from the 55inch C9 to a 65inch GX! My advice to people is get one for yourself and not listen to everyone else. My C9 is still running strong! No burn in, no nothing! 😉

I don’t really watch tv that often, but the one in my living room is a regular 1080p LCD. The monitor I use is 4k, though

I wanted oled because of the black levels, I fell in love when I seen the hdr and the way lights looked natural and it even gives objects in my room their own shadows, it brings immersion to another level.
