In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the English Springer Spaniel that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Sporting Dogs
Weight: 45 to 55 pounds
Height: 1 foot, 6 inches to 1 foot, 10 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 9 to 15 years

English Springer Spaniels are smart and eager to please, not to mention enthusiastic. They are happy dogs and seem to have a good sense of humor. They usually do well with children if they are brought up with them from puppyhood and are affectionate toward their families. They also are generally good with other pets in the household, even small ones, but might see pet birds as prey since those are what they're bred to hunt.

Because they're hunting dogs, English Springer Spaniels require a lot of exercise, but keep them on a leash in unfenced areas or they may decide to go hunting on their own. Because they are such good athletes, many non-hunting owners participate in activities such as obedience, agility, flyball, and tracking with their English Springer Spaniels. They also make great therapy dogs, bringing smiles to people in hospitals and nursing homes.

English Springer Spaniels will bark if strangers come to your house, but if you're looking for a guard dog, keep looking. They are loving, gentle dogs who expect even strangers to give them attention. The gene pools of field and show dogs have been almost completely segregated for about 70 years. Field Springer Spaniels are athletes and they look the part. They usually have shorter coats, their noses are pointier, and their ears are not as long. Field Springers are bred for hunting ability, sense of smell, and trainability.

Most beautiful, intelligent, hilarious, loving, dribbly and sooky dog I've ever had the joy of having in my life. I adore my big puppy! He'll be ten this year - he hasn't realised that yet.... To be loved and adored by one of these creatures is a privilege everyone should experience. True loyalty.

Our springer was the best ....we got her as a rescue at 9 mths old and she had many health issues (kennel cough, ear and teeth problem but she was very smart and loyal....our neighborhood kids would come and knock on our door and ask for her to come out and play...she loved water and would find some when you least expected it..she lived 13 years and we still miss her

I called Springer Spaniels velcro dogs they are always by my side making me laugh and being happy. I'm getting older now but I still love the energy makes me get up play ball with them. After my Springer died four years ago I would never stay that felt like I was never going to find another dog. But I found a little note and she is so comical and funny and fun. It helps the human spirit

After years with labs I've got my first springer spaniel, Huck. He's now 1 year old and starting to settle down? When we walk I keep treats in my pocket which is the ultimate training method!

Libby is my second springer Spaniel. She is a sporting breed and sooo smart. Full of energy and she is my best friend. Never a dull moment. The video was dead on about leaving her too long by herself. She gets mad and only chews my stuff lol. I guess she is trying to tell me “take me with you Mommy”. My first springer was bench and lived 2 weeks shy of 14. She too was my love! She was much calmer than my second Libby. She never complain about anything even when she could not walk anymore due to hip problems. These are the best dogs ever

I've had 4 ESS over the past 30+ years. My two males were 73 and 82 pounds, and not fat. My last one lived 16 years and 9 months. All of them were great companions and great with kids.
