Description:

Did you know that Germany and Luxembourg share one of the most unique borders in the world? Unlike the standard practice of splitting a river down the middle, the Moselle River, which forms their border, is a shared territory—making it a condominium! This unusual arrangement also includes the islands and bridges along the river. Even more fascinating, the tripoint between Luxembourg, France, and Germany is located right in the middle of the river at Schengen, the village that gave its name to the Schengen Area. Dive into this fascinating border story!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Transcript:

Germany and Luxembourg have the widest border. This is because Germany and Luxembourg kind of changed the rules of bordering. You see, The border between the two is a river, the Moselle River, and Usually, when a river marks the border between two countries a standard middle point is used, but in this case, instead of the middle line, the border is actually the entire river.
The river is considered to be part of both countries making it a condominium and the same applies for the islands and the bridges across the river.
What’s interesting is that if we move south, we’ll pop into the tripoint border between Luxembourg, France and Germany which is located in the middle of the river in the village called Schengen, which gave the name to the Schengen area.

The same is true (at least according to Germany and Austria, while Switzerland is only acting as it were so) for the upper part of Lake Constance, which is even wider than river Moselle.

The border between the two is only a small part build by river Mosel.
Its the river Sauer and the river Our as well. From Wasserbilligerbrück north to St. Vith.

Germany loves to do this, the same rhing is done with framce amd the rhine, and germany also considers lake Boden to be a condominium though Switzerland and Austria both have other ideas

A condominium, or condo, is a building or complex of units where each unit is owned individually. Not shared borders .

Not just the river Mosel, its just a third of the border... also the borders following the rivers Sauer and Our, both belong to both countries

pedantry warning

technically, during a small part of the border, it goes off the river leading the small town of vianden to be on the opposite side of the river from the rest of luxembourg

i tought all the time that schengen is some sort of acronym from schoon gehen (easy or nice going) because you can travel in schongen area without border crossings and such problems :)

I am from this region. Fun fact, Germans like to go shopping in Luxembourg/Schengen. The taxes especially on gasoline and tobacco are much lower, but also coffee and alcohol is cheaper. Insider: German like to buy German canned beer in luxenburg because in germany cans belong to a deposit system.
