The Best Guitar For Kids Ages 10 & Under

What guitar should I get for my kid? Here's my recommendation:

Kids can learn to play guitar, but we need to make it as simple for them as possible, and that starts with the right guitar.
In the past, I've always had to teach on either the normal guitar or the ukulele, until I discovered a hybrid.
The Guilele or Guitalele is the best of both worlds, and it's reasonably priced, right at $100. It is the size of a ukulele, which is great for small kids, but plays like a guitar, so they can transition to a larger guitar when they grow up and take all of their knowledge with them.
My two oldest kids started learning on a Guilele at ages 6 and 8, and it has worked great for them. I feel confident that they will be able to upgrade to a normal guitar as they grow, and keep learning where they left off.

I completely disagree start with electrics. They make small micro versions and they are so much fun and versatile. Smaller necks and clearly look so much cooler! Acoustics can in later when the kids respect it more and or can handle the strings.
Electric guitars can modified for when they get older for better sounds. And it still cost less to have someone modify them for you

How about ukulele with low G 4th string? (Any ukulele can have a special same-width low G installed.) It has the same tuning as the guitalele with the benefit of not having the awkward wide neck - not sure how that's comfortable for kids. In terms of different chord shapes, it may actually be more beneficial to understand how notes relate on the neck beyond simply shapes after spending much time on one instrument and then be motivated enough to pick up another related instrument.


Also notable is Yamaha APXT2 (APX Thinline) 3/4 small acoustic guitar. Using nylon strings is not a bad idea for softer playing, which is possible to put on a regular guitar.

An electric with an ergonomic body (strat like, but better no tremolo bridge) + a capo is another way to go.

Yes it is an option, yet what if a child is really into electric guitars? :) my friend's son is 5yo is dreaming of an electric guitar. I guess electro uke is an option however a different story.
