My opinion, should change to the last Friday of January. It’ll be an average long weekend, Friday piss up then Saturday and Sunday to recover. Average weekday workers can spare their sickies, Rdo and holiday leave. Economy still consistent. Everybody lives happy!

My vote is for May 8. It’s an arbitrary date in our history with no importance attached apart from what we give it so we can celebrate our country in all its diversity and wonder, focusing on our spirit of Mateship (May-8-ship) and love of all things Australian. The weather is usually pretty good all over the country, not too hot but not too cold, the perfect time to be outside, loving our country and ALL its peoples.

What about the date of the last successful Referendum that allowed all Australians to be treated as equal and racial divide was removed from the constitution, 27th May. I know the Jan holiday would be great, peak of summer ect.

The date can be changed easily, as evidenced by it being changed to 26/01 from July, in the past. If it can be changed then, it can be changed now.

Let’s just get independence from the monarchy and make that day the new Australia Day. What could be more inclusive to indigenous people than celebrating the day we rejected the colonial imperialists who stole their land in the first place.

I vote for a public holiday in that annoying bit of the year between Labour Day and the Kings Birthday. Spread the public holidays throughout the year.

Gotta say, January is a great month for a national holiday - the height of summer in this beautiful warm country.
January 1st would be the most appropriate date to celebrate our federation - shame it’s already taken by another holiday 😫
If we could became a republic on the average day in January (the 16th), that would become the obvious candidate for a new Australia Day which, finally, would be a celebration of our independence as a nation which as of 2024 we are still yet to achieve!

Federation was January the first 1901, just thinking simply that’s Australia Day. January 26 is like celebrating the opening of a prison. I would rather celebrate the survival of the First Nations people, for 80, 000 years!

White people were once stone age people too, colonisation happened, not all bad for Australia, changing dates doesn't erase history or alter the future 😊

October 24th would be a good date that coincides with the Tenterfield Oration, but I’m happy with January 26th

At the end of the day indigenous peoples will always protest against the day itself, regardless of the actual date it is celebrated on

Sure, change the date. And let those who want no Aussie Day at all....buy a box of tissues.

Why is the Australian date which is the biggest event in the country is not celebrated by its people?

We need to grow some self respect and become a republic to celebrate republic day. Until then this Australia Day means nothing to me.
