If you don’t know how to properly utilize a 401k you shouldn’t be investing at all… you get double your money to invest when you use a 401k through an employer as long as you only contribute to maximum the employer matches. You cannot get that same return through anything these days. You can borrow against your 401k tax free for purchases like your first home.
