This is the noise Joyce (the van) was making before I had the engine taken out and timing chain replaced. She had done 220,000 miles to be fair :)

So my 2010 is making pretty much the same noise- a mechanic friend said I had a rod knocking without looking at it.
No dash lights have come on and my oil pressure is fine. Any advice would be appreciated

I had the same issue on a 2011 Vito. It will be your auxiliary belt tensioner not running true. Quite a cheap fix. Check in the engine bay with the engine running, you’ll prob see the belt not running straight.

Chance it could be a loose heat guard ?
On tickover it would vibrate more, up the revs the engine is smoother and things vibrate less ?
Only my guess...
Had it with an old 4x4 of mine a few years ago.

Did you just do the chain and tensioner or guides as well

Sounds like a loose heat guard have a look under the van for any loose metal guards .... hows it driving

Hi @Kitevanman. Did the noise go away after you replaced the timing chain or is it still there due to the vacuum pump? My 2010 313CDI Sprinter is making the same noise at running temp. Hoping it's not the timing chain, to be honest. How much did it cost to replace yours?

Mine started this exact noise a few days ago then promptly vanished it has now returned i i wondered what it was now i know thanks to your video ...can you tell me how much for the work you had done please ? Mines done 200, 000 nearly .

Did you sort the noise out if so what was the problem . Mine has just started doing it not as noisy as your buts it's started . ?
